Want to make beats on ableton/MPC2000XL

I keep hearing terminology such as "slave" and the mpc being the "master" and stuff like that. I'm not well informed about midi. I've read some stuff but I don't really get it.

You can synchronise two sequencers using MIDI Time Code (MTC) or MIDI Beat Clock (MIDI Clock).

There are other sync protocols, but they are they two you would most likely be dealing with.

MIDI Time Code sends continuous time/position messages from one sequencer to the other.

MIDI Beat Clock sends continuous beat/tempo messages from one sequencer to the other.

The sequencer that is generating the MIDI Time Code or MIDI Beat Clock, and sending it out to the other sequencer, is called the Master.

The sequencer that is following the MIDI Time Code or MIDI Beat Clock, being sent into it from the other sequencer, is called the Slave.

I see. Okay, so if I want to bounce my beats from my mpc to ableton my sounds won't bounce with it right? Just the midi information?

master / slave has nothing to do with bouncing.
master / slave = midi.
bouncing = audio.

bouncing has nothing to with midi. bouncing is usually referring to taking audio from one or multiple sources and combining them into another source - for example you can 'bounce' 4 tracks from a four track recorder to a stereo wave file, stick it on a cd and call it done.

the only way to bounce from an mpc is to plug the audio outputs into the audio inputs of a device and hit play on the mpc and record on the other device.
midi can help sync these two devices, but is not necessary for bouncing.

its really simple - if you are using midi cables, you will get midi data. if you are using audio cables, you will get audio.

So what if I recorded a drum sequence on the mpc and wanted the same exact same sequence on ableton?
