I'm excited. Got 2 MPC2000s for free!

I had the first one for a few months, waiting to make a parts order. Instead I bought the Korg Volca Beats (which is bangin' for $150).
Just a few minutes ago, my boy dropped off the second unit. The screen's dead. Luckily the first unit had a perfect screen. I'm getting ready to spend a few hours and hopefully have one solid unit working before I go to sleep tonight. Time for me to get this project moving along and finally be back in full swing again.

Curious what was the problem with the first unit?
Since you say you were waiting to make a parts order it doesn't sound to serious.
I would say if you can get both up and running go for it.

Any chance you can get the screen up or is it that bad?

The first unit needed around $100 or so in parts (pad sensors, pads, note variation slider, a few buttons, and a lot of tact switches). The main output board needed soldering for the outputs became loose.

The new unit had a bad cable that goes from the power supply to the main board. The display had one or two lines in it. The NV fader needed some fader lube. Other than that, there were 2 cosmetic problems.... the front grill looked scraped up and the side of the chassis had a small dent which I was able to pull.

So far, the new second unit is up and running with the parts I replaced and it's like brand new now (looks and feels like new after stripping both units down to nothing.

The first unit is now sitting in my closet for spare parts. I may end up selling the extra 8 output board if anyone in the U.S. is interested.

With the current price of the OG 2k that would be a good move.
That would re-up your money but still leave you with the spare unit for parts later on.

Considering I spent no money at all for either unit, I'm definitely ahead of the game. I thought about buying the external CF reader with the money from selling the 8 output card. But since the 2k OS has no folders, it would end up driving me crazy. So maybe I'll sell the 2k and the 8 outs and buy a 2kxl or a 2500. But I'd love to buy an MPC60 as well. So I'll see what's out there and put some more thought into it all before I make any final decisions. But for now, it's like getting reaquainted with an old friend, being that the 2000 was the first model I worked with when it first came out in '97.

As soon as I upload them on my photobucket account, I'll post the pics I took. Nothing special... just 2 stock units that were stripped down to the bare chassis and one unit rebuilt and restored back to what looks like an almost new stock unit.

Thanks man. I got lucky wiith the generosity of some friends who surprised me out of nowhere. This old tank is gonna keep me happy for a long time.

I'd be like Dr Dre. except he ran at least 2 or more MPC3000s.

I'd like to take the top housing from the other unit, strip it down to bare metal and have my boy Reme customize it.
