I'm not sure how many of you sample digitally. But I have a Digitech Genesis 3 guitar processor that I bought from my brother. It's gotta be around 10 years old, but it's in new condition, and sounds really good for the amp sim technology, which was top of the line at the time.
It sounds great through the SPDIF input on the MPC2000. But the problem I ran into when I was sampling was that when I used the last few seconds of sample memory to squeeze one more sample in, the unit froze up and started playing all the samples in the memory, one after another, non-stop. There was NOTHING I could do to stop it and I had to shut it down, losing all my samples I just finished making.
I thought maybe there was an issue with the RAM. So I used the analog inputs and used up the entire 32mb sample memory with my Korg Volca Beats. No problem. It even gave a pop-up message saying it had no memory left. All is good with the Ram. No malfunctions.
My thoughts are that it could be something about the Genesis 3. But before i rule that out, I'll have to do one more test. I still have my old PC here for Floppy disc sample backup. This was my old DAW machine. So I'll sample into the MPC with the Echo MIA card that served me well since 2001.
While I'm still in the process of getting around to that, I thought it would be good to post this topic for discussion to see whatever kind of weirdness anyone's experienced while sampling from SPDIF on the 2000.
