CF Card Lost Files

Alright so I just finished a week/ week and a half's long project and I was like "alright time the next one". So I take out my CF card, pop it into my computer and transfer the files to the computer. One thing led to another and I ended up with an unreadable card, and half of my sounds on the computer. With no other choice(so I thought) I hastily formatted the card and put the remaining sounds from the project back on the card to test out what I had really lost. Needless to say it wasn't pretty. So I figured out that 1.) formatting the card was not that great of an Idea unless tried on another computer first, and 2.) Loading files back onto the card after formatting was an even more dire mistake because the formatted files may have been overwritten completely. So when I tried to recover my lost files, I could only see the most recent deleted files. Now I open this problem up to the MPC community. Is there anyway to recover all files that have ever been on my CF card? or something that might help me? thank you for your time.

I don't have an answer for you but a little advice.
Never open your Mpc storage card (or disk) on the computer. Keep a seperate transfer card to save to, to transfer files keeping the main card as backup and hopefully uncorruptable. You should then never get in this situation again.
If you have an important project, consider making a second backup just in case.

And that is also a good reason to have a hot-swap card reader.

Having two non-hotswap card readers, or a second storage device of some kind, would also work.

With just a single non-hotswap card reader, as your only storage device, is there a way to backup a memory card without connecting it to a computer?

transferring to / from mac causes one set of problems - use windows if at all possible.

also if any of your filenames are longer than 8 characters, you can kiss that file goodbye once you load it in the computer.
unfortunately, the mpc generates these corrupt filenames by default a lot of times (when splitting a stereo file, for instance).

use windows.
keep all filenames less 8 characters.
