Expanding memmory on Mpc2000

Recently got myself a Mpc2000 after years of wanting one.
Bless up!
It's only got the 2mb/20 seconds sample time at the moment and when I record live guitar into it I get some latency out the headphones.

So I have two questions here:

Is the latency just because of the lack of Ram?

&

Does anyone know of a retailer or the specifics of what to ask for, of this Ram in the U.K?

I'd appreciate any help & advice.

These things are great man & mines in really good condition, I found it virtually impossible to make beats on Daws, always off or just fin midrangy sounds.

check craigslist, kijiji, gumtree, ebay.. or what ever for the cheapest 72 pin simm chips.

you are looking for two 16mb sticks, or a 32mb stick.... i suggest getting a few on the cheap..... in case in the future something happens.


i dont know about the latency issue.

Ram for these is really cheap now.
At one time it would have cost you about a ton for a couple of ram sticks but these days it's around £10.00 or less.
You may find cheaper from China but I'd rather trust someone established.

but there are other good sellers too.
Importing from the US doesn't actually take that long and in the unlikely event that the ram is faulty, an established seller will replace it.

As for the latency,.. what you are experiencing is merely the latency of monitoring through the machine and doesn't affect how your sample will play.
I would suggest you use a guitar amp for monitoring the guitar and take feed to the sampler from that if possible (some amps have a line out). Then latency will not be a problem.
the audio monitor can be toggled off in the sampling screen. Then you won't hear it from the sampler.



Ps The latency is caused from the mpc processing your guitar signal into a digital one and the back to an analogue one for you to hear at the outputs. Nothing to do with the meagre ram.
This is fine if you are sampling a record ( for instance) but no good if you are trying to monitor your own performance.

Yep I'll monitor it from the amp instead or just record it into the computer then into the mpc.
I hadn't expected the processing delay, but It makes sense & isn't a big deal.
I should have some new ram soon.
It's taking me a while to get back into the old school methods, but it's a lot more immediate.
Floppy disks are a bit of a pain in the arse though : )
