Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Sup,

I am very new to this forum but i got a question for you mpc 2kxl heads out there :)

So i am planning on buying my first mpc 2000xl, and I got my eye on one.
But the problem is, there are already some lines in the screen (will post picture below).
Not that many tho but i already saw like 4 vertical lines.

Now my question is: How long will i be able to see the screen properly? I saw some guy who had pretty much the exact same problem as me, and he had lines all over the screen in a matter of days.

The best thing to do is to buy a different one, but I live in The Netherlands so buying one abroad is really expensive for me lol. And tihs is like the first one in weeks to pop up in this area.

One more thing, it has got the 8 outs upgrade, but the 1/4 inch out's just look cheap i geuss lol. i will post a picture of the 8 outs just so you guys can tell me if they're allright ;)

Thanks for your time.

I wouldn't buy it with lines (it's an old machine, we all know that though). Your gonna end up replacing it. No one can accurately tell you when, but you will.

My 8 outs are different than your's.

Without a readily available screen replacement, I would not buy it.

Though the lines don't seem too bad as yet, no idea how long they would take to go bad to the point it was unusable.

The 8 output expansion board looks different because it is a Mutec ADO-02, rather than an Akai IB-M208P.

The Mutec 8 output board has digital IO using AES/EBU digital signals on 1/4" jacks, rather than S/PDIF on RCA connectors.

Well that's fkt up.. Really thought that i finally found one marr. But how long is an average mpc 2kxl screen going to last? Like is it common to get lines after 1 year of regular usage?

And about the 8 outs, your digital in/out are RCA, mine are 1/4inch... That doesn't seem right to me. And there is no metal/gold/silver/whatever ring to connect with the 1/4 inch plug..

I'm starting to think that this Mpc is not worth the 350 euro lol...

Depends on usage, how bad the damage is, environment. No set amount of time, not even a general time frame.

It's caused by heat. Pins lift off the board, causing the lines to form. So the longer it's on, the clock ticks.

I sat a nice big fan behind my screen and it actually seemed to help. So far, it's been quite a few months of regular use, but as I've said in that thread, only time will tell if the fan is even helping.

I don't want to say give up on the XL, however that issue is a nasty one. I would say try and cop one without the lines, or not very much advised, buy that one and try a fan behind the screen. <>MAY NOT WORK<>

Try looking at International Sellers, who will ship to Netherlands I would say :)

Keep in mind, lines can form on a 2KXL eventually, even if they are not already there. Best to keep it turned off when not in use.

thanks guys for all the good replies.

Think im still gonna risk it. I just really can't import one from the USA. (will cost me like 200 dollars to get it here.) And the chance of finding another one in my area soon is just too low.

I also saw some posts about the Akai dps 12 screen. they say that it could be installed in the xl with some soldering works. So my bed is to replace the screen if it completly dies on me.

Also, why is there no lcd replacement screen for the mpc 2kxl? I saw that Envision Electronics got one in the past but doesnt sell them anymore. Same goes for MPCstuff, but i think that those 2 companies worked together on that part..

Is it really that difficult? i mean, is there really no LCD screen at all that is compatible with the 2kxl? There must be some kind of option...

Is USA really the only option, no MPC2000XLs for sale in the whole of Europe?

Think about those two paragraphs for a moment.

Do you think two companies would get together to develop a custom replacement LCD if there was one available off the shelf?

Are there many DPS12s available locally to you?

There is no easy option, nothing exists off the shelf and the first effort by Envision had several problems that he (I assume) has not yet been unable to iron out. MPCStuff was the distributor for the 'v1' screens and that, I believe, is as far as his involvement goes unless v2 screens see the light of day.

If there was an easier option, as is the case with the 1000/2500 screens, then yes, no doubt we'd have 2000/XL screens coming out of our backsides :)

Options:

1. Try to find a good quality second hand MPC2000XL or Akai DPS12 screen (I managed to pick up a perfect 2000 screen off Ebay UK the other day)
2. Wait for a better MPC2000XL to turn up. Watch out for the blue versions with CF card reader as they are much newer and most likely have had less 'on' time.

Actually, there's this one on UK Ebay, the Orange LE, has a mint perfect screen.

No import duties to pay, around 60 EUR shipping by Parcelforce to Netherlands. If I had the spare cash I'd buy that if the price stayed in the £300-£350 region.

Those special edition's have the softest pads of all mpc's, just saying.
