cf question?

is there a list of cf cards that work?

not exactly... there are threads where people mention ones that worked for them but it tends to vary even if you get the same recommended brands and models.

Generally type 2 sandisk 1gb cards work, some people say 2 gb ones work but only show 1gb when using 1.20 (which is likely to be the case unless you found a cf reader that works using 1.14 which tends to be a bit rare)

some people say kingston 1gb cards don't work, but I had one that did work.

Even with the type 2 sandisks some people had problems... but I suggest that type because those seem to be the most consistent ones you see working.

well the problem is, 1.20 is so the XL can use the CF reader... so if you are installing it yourself... you should be trying to install it with your floppy drive while that is still connected. But also, you can try out if your reader works with 1.14 (ie: it can see the card) and if it does... don't upgrade to 1.20.

actually you can still find hot swap cf drives at mpcstoragesolution.com . their drive work perfectly with 1.14 operating system. this os allows you to use up to a 16gb cf card. bought an external one for my mpc2000xl a couple of months ago. by the way it works with the mpc2000 classic. believe it is a pcd-60b and cf card must be inserted in to pcmcia slot (adapter card needed).

also, Kingston brand works perfectly. cf card has a flower image. believe it is 133x max.

it is true as mr_debauch says, if you decide to install drive internally, before removing floppy drive (or zip drive), flash 1.14os to mpc2000xl and then check os version to make sure it is there. and then remove floppy/zip drive and replace with cf drive. for power, piggy-tail wires to sampler power. have not done internal job but I would advise using volt meter to see which wire is 5v and 0v.

Oh great! except the price.. **** that shit. If you have an XL, there is no point spending 200 bucks on a card reader... if you have a 2000 classic, you can't use folders on the cards.
