Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I recently bought an mpc 2000xl that came with a 4 gig hard drive. I ordered the startech cf card reader from amazon with the intent of being able to load drum kits from my laptop to the card and then the mpc. from what i have read so far in the forums swapping the card from my laptop its not possible.is this right?. Im also ordering that 40 pin ide cable from ebay. My other concern is that I need to upgrade to ver 1.20 os in order for the card reader to work, but since the unit came with the the hard drive what are my options to install the reader properly and to upgrade the os?and can i only use the 1 gig cards?
thanks guys. Cant wait to start playing with this thing.

4GB Hard Drive??

Also think of how you will mount it. As you will need to add holes into the plate, as the review stated.

I think your refering to the Hot-Swappable term? That meanswhile the MPC is on, you can not pull the card out. You must turn the MPC off before removing the card.

To take sounds from the internet to the CF card you will need a USB CF Reader. Drag the files to the card plugged into the USB reader, then freely remove the card, and insert into the turned off MPC. Then you may turn the unit back on.

You would need to install a floppy drive, you can take one out of an old PC if you have one laying around. Then download the 1.20 update, put on the floppy (Floppy USB drive) and install to the MPC.
