what is the best version OS for the 2000 classic?

I have been using 1.5 since i got it and it's pretty good. the only problem i've had is with "cut" not trimming my beginning sometimes. i recently grabbed a disc with OS 1.72 thinking that the higher the number the better the OS. when i cut with that i get most of the beginning trimmed, but in all of my samples it is the exact same length of time left on at the beginning; quite odd. the plus side to it though is that the beginning marker does stay where i left it, so i don't have to re-mark the beginning. but either way i am having to zone edit before i save, so what's the use?

does anyone have some more insight into the various available OS for the classic?

yes 1.72 is the latest and best version... it even gives the ability to use the .wav format.

the problem with the trim is a known issue and you have to learn to avoid it or work around it.

cut the ends once.. but continually doing it to the same sample seems to make that happen. I don't use that way of cutting usually anyways... I tend to use.. zone edit I believe... that one lets you take a long sample and copy parts into new samples... you take all the parts you need and then delete the original long sample.

zone edit is cool. i end up having to zone edit regardless so it's all good.

I knew i could use .wav files with the mpc but i had no idea i needed 1.72. fortunately i now have it.

well im not sure which exact decimal point revision put the .wav capability... but it wasn't originally available when the 2000 came out.

Yeah so zone edit, and if you need to trim it more later on if for example you are just a little bit short to save the APS file on your floppy disk... you can use the trim at the end on the things you made from zone edit. Also, I think if you were to restart the machine after that glitch and reload the APS, then the issue goes away until you do it again repeating the glitch.

I have most of the OS versions for the 2000, 1.0, 1.31, 1.50, 1.70, 1.72

there is just one nice feature on 1.31 and 1.0, and it is this:
when you kick on 16 levels, the pad parameters edit screen stays on the pad you selected for 16 levels. IMO that makes it a lot easier to tweak when in 16 levels mode but the downside is it is not possible to edit programs while sequencer is running.

The main thing I was looking for by seeking out all the previous OS versions is if any of them were more stable, but they all have that issue with "DIV.error @ 3000:00F4" thing when you mess with the envelopes on shorter non-loop type samples. The only solution I found to guarantee you don't get the "DIV.error" is either 1)don't mess with the envelope. 2)if you do mess with the envelope, make sure the sample is loop: ON type. (just loop some added silence if you have to)

that's true. isn't there something you can do with the note variation slider that is similar to that?

yeah you can set it to velocity or pitch but it isn't the same.. because sometimes you could be running a drum loop and want to out of the blue do a 16 levels pitch on a string sample to make a small melody on the fly between other stuff going on... it isn't a big deal but it might have been cool.

I think he means.. say you have 16 levels on.. then you exit it and want to return, you gotta push that pad after pushing the 16 levels button... or at least I think that is what he means.

and what I meant is I wish while you have the sequencer playing maybe you want to do a bit of 16 levels tune on a bass note, but then you want to exit and then do 16 levels with another sample but without pushing stop... or maybe you didn't know before pushing play on the sequencer that spontaneously you would feel like doing some 16 levels action... so then you push stop and quickly try to turn 16 levels on so you can push play again on beat... but that never works hahahahaha.... you wind up recording some pre-done 16 levels melody in another track that you keep muted incase such an idea comes around next time. lol...

if you were quick enough or had a long enough sample you could stop the sequencer, quickly hit 16 levels and the pad and start the sequencer on the downbeat. you'd have to practice it but i think it has been done.

my 16 levels and bank are a hit or miss haha... they work but take a little bit more time holding it down or maybe there is a slight delay.

you could be right, but you gotta be quick... I haven't been successful the times I tried to pull it off, but it was never a thing I thought of more than a second before trying it. Maybe I will give it another attempt next time I got the mpc on..

Wav file loading was in the MPC2000 OS from 1.0.

Wav file saving was added to the MPC2000 OS at 1.7.
