"Error at 0000:BFF2" new hard drive

Hi all

I recently purchased the 18gb scsi hdd you can find on ebay ( i have the 2000xl one obviously)

However i cant get it to work, even to format.

I go into load then try to scroll to select what scsi number i chose on the hdd. I get the following error when i get to it

"Error at 0000:BFF2"

When i get to this screen im kinda stuck but if i select main screen i get this (not sure if this helps)


So then i have to turn off

Ive tried different scsci numbers, plugging it into either port on the hdd/ using not using the terminator.

Leaving the hdd on for a 15 mins before turning on the mpc. Then leaving same time mpc powered on to see if it took time to recognize nothing

My mpc is ver 1.14 though - i have a 1.2 bootdisk but i cant find any changelog so im not sure if it would nake any difference

Edit : noticed i dont get an error message if i have a terninator plugged into the other scsi port. But the mpc still doesnt recognize

With the terminator plugged in also the hard drive sounds like its booting up once i turn on the mpc, which would assume the hd is recognizing the mpc which surely mean the cable as fine as thats were the hd is picking up the signal

Is this hard drive in an external SCSI drive case?

When the terminator is connected to the 'other' SCSI connector, which I assume is a second SCSI connector on an external SCSI drive case, have you tried formatting it at the SCSI address that the hard drive is set to (other than SCSI ID 6, as that is what the MPC SCSI interface uses)?

Yes it is. Here is the hard drive in question

Your right the hd has two connectors so its plugged in the extra one. You can choose what scsi address you want on the front of the hd, so then ive gone to that scsi number on the mpc.

Ive tried multiple numbers

I think you need to contact the seller, and ask them why it isn't working.

I would open the case and set the SCSI ID and termination on the drive with jumpers, if possible.

But since you bought it recently, taking it up with the seller is probably the best option.

I have the same problem. I noticed that this only happens (with me at least) when I insert a floppy inside the MPC before it boots up.

what I do is I wait for the mpc to boot up and show the main screen window before I insert the floopy/zip. Hope this helps.

the seller told me to update to 1.2

still didnt fix it. contacted him over a week ago no response

sadly paypal has expired so I cant claim my money back for it.

pretty shocked considering his amount of sales/feedback

guess ima stick with floppies

Damn that **** sucks!!! yeah im going through the same problem, i feel as though some of these sellers are frauds.. Ima keep digging hoping to find the best way of storing memory..

Dude, look at the title and sub-title of the ebay listing. It says,

1 Year sellers warranty! Includes cables and FREE SHIP"

It says 1 Year sellers warranty! You just dropped 119 dollars on this drive. Get in touch with this guy and tell him the drive does NOT work and you have a 1 year sellers warranty. The 14 days return was for a refund. But if the drive is defective, return and tell him to get you a working hard drive that is recognized by the MPC2000XL. I can tell you that the drive should at least be recognized by either 1.14 and 1.20. I have one with my MPC2000XL and have tried both versions. They work. You should not see jibberish on the screen. You should escalate to ebay based on false advertising. I guess anyone can say 1 years warranty and not honor it. A worthless warranty. If things do not turn out for you, you can always leave negative feedback ($119 worth of - feedback). Do not let him off the hook that easily. I am sorry but that is just too much money to throw away and let others know to beware this seller. Total bs.

I got burned by one of these sd readers. Lost money. Stay away from pro_oem_stereo. Sure he's got 100% feedback but most of his feedback is as a buyer not seller. I was easily fooled. Consider cf cards instead of sd cards. Ther are plenty of cf cards out there.

@Productions: yeah youre right man, ima kindof sound like a noob right now but how exactly do those CF cards work, like do i have to install them into my Mpc? i wouldnt mind if i have to i just want my damn MPC to work already!

external scsi cf drives are best for those who do not wish to fuss with an internal cf drive because it involves taking the sampler apart and some wiring for power. if you do not know what you are doing then stick to external cf drive. i have an external hotswap cf drive that works nicely. i simply plug into the scsi port at the back of the mpc (os1.14). the drive is recognized at the preset scsi id. i use a pcmcia adapter card to connect cf card (any size up to 16gb) to drive. you can load and save easily to cf card. you can format cf with sampler or with pc. if you go iwth one of those addonics card readers, that is not hotswap (cannot remove) and can only use up to 1gb cf card, I think. the important thing is that the cf card reader be recognized.

Okay cool sounds good! do you think i could buy one of those external scsi cf drives on ebay? or where did you buy yours at? and honestly i dont mind buying an internal one i could just learn how to instal it, as long as it works properly. thanks for helping me out too btw

all my card readers are from mpcstoragesolution.com (go directly to their website and ask all questions). they are also on ebay but contact them directly and they will assist where necessary. i have bought non-hot swap and hot swap for all my equipment (mpc2000, mpc2000xl, mpc3000 (when i had one), asr10, and a really vintage sequential circuits studio 440 (do not see these anymore). since you have they do have internal cf drives they will sell to you but are hestitant for most users not familiar with taking things apart or lack electrical knowledge or using a multimeter. I can understand their point of view. let them know of your equipment, operating system, and what you are looking for. if they cannot help you, they will point you somewhere else. that's about it.
