Speeding up a record to record it.

Just wondering if the oldskool method of speeding up a record thenn pitching it down changes the sonic dynamics of said sound?
A lot of you cats talk about 12 bit crunch & what not.
It took me ages to get a mpc 2000 and personally I think this is the Gf**kin Shiz**eet.
I'm not going to buy a Sp12 for 1200 quid 30 years later.
Sure there is a lot of dope albums made on them, but those cats used what they had, But I do think it's true that the sequencer elements of those older machines we're a lot more comprehensive.
I still think Alesis Sr16 are phat.

That trick works really good with the 2k classic. You'll get a nice grainy lo-fi sound instantly. If your kick drums need more punch, layer them up.

I think changing the bits would get that feel more so than pitching up and down, although that does effect the sound. But converting samples to 12 bit, will sound more like an sp since its a 12 bit machine.

Does the 2000 also have the option of converting your samples to 12 bit?

The 2000 classic has no resampling features. But that's not a drawback. Adding another sampler makes the machine twice as fun.
