The $10 reader is USB, it is not going to work in/with an MPC2000/XL.

Or

usb drive does not work. mpc2000xl has scsi port only.
i use the same hot swap cf drive with my mpc2000xl (using 1.14 os) shown in the 2nd link. it is hot-swap and uses all size cf cards up to 16gb which is what i use. works perfectly. you must insert cf card into pcmcia adapter card and then insert into pcmcia I/II slot where the cf card wil be recognized. also works with the mpc2000. you can also buy the whole package from mpcstoragesolution.com which includes the pcmcia adapter and cf card which will work right out of the box. one more thing, i saw someone with that sd card reader sold on ebay and it is a not hot swap drive and more expensive. the user mentioned the sd card reader was inconvenient to use because he could not swap out sd cards. i recommend hot swap cf card drives because they work for me. i borrowed their pic for you to see.
dude, i am late for work so i am off. just wanted to share my experience with cf drive and my mpc2000xl. later.

It actually has an internal IDE/ATAPI port, as well as external and internal SCSI ports.
I use the CompuApps ATAPI 741 reader internally, but reports from people who have tried to buy it from them have said that they do not respond to inquiries about it, so they have not been able to buy it from them...

Simon, you are correct. that is the complete answer. there are multiple internal ports as Simon describes.

someone should post the link to the card reader thread(s) where hundreds of working models are shown... assuming we think the OP is using an mpc 2000xl or classic.

RootsRenegade posted the link to it one post above yours.
It is a sticky at the top of the MPC2000/XL forum.

The problem is that not many hot swap card readers work with it, and ones that do are not necessarily still readily available.
If you use a non-hotswap IDE-CF adapter/reader, internally, there are many that will probably work, and are very cheap, in comparison to hot swap internal card readers and external card readers.
The non-hot swap external card readers that are available, are most likely a relatively cheap IDE-CF adapter/reader, connected to a SCSI-IDE bridge, in an external case.
That multi-slot card reader you posted a link to recently, is a SCSI card reader, in an external case, but out of the multiple slots, only work with the PCMCIA card slot, and need a CF-PCMCIA adapter to use a CF card in that PCMCIA card slot.
It is not that easy to provide a comprehensive list of all that are available, and work, there isn't that many, and no one really wants to buy and test everything to compile a list of what works for others to reference.
