Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So I have a strange issue that I have been trying to fix and it just is not working and I am beginning to get frustrated.

I have my MPC 2000 Classic connected to an M-Audio M-Track interface via Midi ins and outs. From there the Interface is connected to my USB, and into Ableton live 8.1. I am just trying to track out into ableton and it is not working.

I have the track armed, I have the right inputs and outputs selected, I have set the same tempos on ableton and the MPC2k, I have timecode selected on both and everything seems to be fine.

However, what is happening, is that the tracks will record for the correct amount of time, just so audio is being recorded. There are no waves present on the section that was just recorded. Almost as if I just recorded silence.

It is strange because Ableton recognizes that it is recording, and it recognizes the MPC as slave it just is recording silence. I have been trying to fix this for hours so any advice is appreciated. I am sure I have some stupid setting screwed up somewhere but it is really frustrating. Thanks.

You have to connect the MPC audio outputs to the M-Audio audio inputs, you can't record audio over MIDI cables.

If you don't connect audio cables between them, it will record what is plugged into the audio inputs, which is nothing/silence.
