bad floppy drive (?)

I think the floppy drive has some problem writing the data.
Writing, not reading, becouse it loads correctly the OS, never had issues with it.

When I load sounds from a floppy (formatted in the mpc), 5 sounds on 10 are corrupted (disk read error). I've tried different types of floppies, same problem in all of them.
I save all the files in the snd format with max 8 characters.

I'm from Italy, sorry for shitty english.

However, what do you think about it? Do I need a new floppy drive?

Try something like this first. If that doesn't help, maybe a different floppy drive altogether.

Cost, you'll have to look around.

2kxl can use the same floppy as in older pc's, 40 pin w/ ribbon data cable (should be cheap). I can't remember the 2k floppy drive.

I've tried an old floppy drive of a 2002 pc.. a Samsung SFD-321b.. It didn't work..
I guess I have to look for a TEAC like this one http://www.bignoisempc.com/mpc-2000-200 ... ppy-drive/

Does anyone know other compatible drives? It's hard to find that teac here in europe

I would install a card reader but it doesn't make much sense since the 2k classic doesn't support folders.

In Germany you can get a floppy drive for like 5 € on eBay. Don't buy a floppy drive thats "especially for the mpc". They are just ripping you off!

I agree. I've even tried several different floppy drives out of old computers (you can find stock piles where I live of them) and they all worked exactly the same, because floppy drives are the same thing. Only if it was a propitiatory part like say an LCD, does it have to be "FOR" the unit.

Good advice from Pure Crates on that one for sure.
