Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

This is a hypothetical question. I don't have a method of saving or loading because my zip drive is not working.

Ok, lets say I want to make a beat compilation in one session on my mpc. I'm extracting samples, programs and sequences from multiple zips/floppys to create this one collage of beats. I load up the first sequence file and the first program and sounds file. However when I load up the next batch of sequences and programs (from another song) I run the risk of replacing the previous file I loaded. Is there a way I can take all the beats I've made and put them into one file without having to redo the sequences? There are some songs where I sequence drums/samples a certain way and I just can't do it over again. Is there a way to take that song and combine it with another song without replacing the sequence and program data?

Sorry if I don't make any sense I'm not very good at articulating this stuff because theses are questions I rarely get to ask.

No.

You did it once, you can do it again.

No.

Also....

well I have never tried it... because I have never needed to... but can't you choose to load a single sequence in the load screen? Wouldn't that allow you to choose what sequence number it goes to without replacing existing sequences in ram on the 2000?

Yes, loading a single SEQ will work, but, 2k classic is 1 active program at a time, 2kxl is 4 active programs at a time. If you will want to load more than than 1 PGM on a 2k you will HAVE to change the active PGM, meaning all associated sample assignments will be unassigned/changed. It's not such a modern machine as this request requires it to be.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, but you should be able to load all your projects at once just do this checklist:
-all sequences have different names.
-all programs have different names.
-all samples have different names.
-it's ok to use the same samples in different programs.
-it's ok to use the same programs in different sequences.
-adding files only add PGM, SEQ, MIDI, SND/WAV, the ones to avoid in this case are .APS and .ALL because .APS will replace all programs, .ALL will replace all sequences. When you're done loading all your shit, save it as an .APS .ALL

I think that's the basic requirements, you should be able to load plenty of ideas at once, that's the thing I like about MPC you have plenty of sequencer space the main limitation is just the total # of samples

EDIT: oh yeah the thing you need to do to pull this off is put PGM changes in all your sequences.

20+ inactive programs can reside in ram that you can change to at anytime. Only 1 (2k) and 4 (2kxl) active PGM's at a time though. That will take planning to pull off well.

yeah I guess you would have to load samples one at a time and assign them to pads manually... basically making a new PGM manually... pain in the ass... it's easier to get a few more 2000xl machines and a mixer.

:WTF: ok now I just understood the original question.

Explain in different ways next time. One of us will catch on soon enough
