i think i have the click of death

i threw a zip in my drive to format it and it went click click click click . . .

i ejected it.

put it back in and it gives two big clicks and permanently reads scsi not ready. this is what happens to every zip disk now. except for one disk it didn't do the two big clicks on, but it still reads scsi not ready.

is theis it? the click? of death?

you are moving to fast for the machine. the disk is prolly really full, or has lots of editing messages. just take it easy. pop the disk in and don't go by the clicks-each zip clickz different. wait till the zip stopps humming. and don't try to access anything while the second light is blinking-you are giving it too much. if you get the scsi not ready prompt, turn the jog dial again , and you'll get it.

and whatever you do, don't put your disks near speaker or a tv......erase-oh, and always back EVERYTHING UP.

i get the scsi not ready all the time, i'm just real excited to bangout.

patience is a virtue. as long as you don't get DISK ERROR you are ok, and even that doenst mean anything. i have a 2000, so i have to boot everytime i power up-sometimes i get a disk error when i pop the floppy in, usually i pull it out, restart he machine, and rock. If you disks are too warm, too cold, if the environment to where the machine is -is too humid, expect disk errors.

oh yeah, and NOTHING is permanant.

word. thats hopeful that im not getting disk error but this is happening with every disk (full empty formatted unformatted) and i've given it plenty of time on each one.

i hear you though. my reaction after 20 minutes of messing around was to turn everything off and remove all the power plugs and decide to let eveything chill out overnight.

WELL THE POWER HAS NOTHING TO DO WiTH DISK ERROR, unless you opened the machine and when in there. then lord knows. But i get that all the time. go power up now, let it load up and everything on its own. Let the machine come up, give it a few secs, pop in any operating disks, let it read the freakin disc ( its not a cd or cd drive ) its magnetic media and you have to give the machine a chance to recognize whats on the disc. Take care of that machine kid, cause if you nasty wit it-it'll be nasty back.

when you wake in the morning, you need a minute to assess, scratch your nuts and open your eyes...just stepback and let your machine do the same when you wake it.

dont throw in disks?

clicks mean the drive is broken. its happened to me. stoop putiing your disks in the broken zip drive and get a new one. check for an eby seller: scsiforsamplers, he knows what you need.

most electronics with moving parts from the east, are usually greased on moving parts. the click that you heaR is the wearing away of the lube. not that its abad thing. when the drive clicks-the big funky arm that you see in the drive ( if u have one of the clear joints ) is pulling the disk in, pulling the metal disk cover, back-then u hear it spinning ( reading ). follow it through and listen, you'll see. the drive has 2 spring mechanismz that click into place .............keeps the disk from slipping. iomega wasn't playing when they made those. those drives were built to go far.
