MPC 2000xl ERROR messages and Freezing

I recently bought a 2kxl with

Internal 250mb ZIP drive
Max ram
2 Outs
Ver 1.20
No external damages

For the first few weeks it worked without problems. Saving sequencing sampling all worked correctly.


The Problem:
MPC began to freeze periodically, rendering the pads buttons and knobs useless. The screen itself does not freeze (you can see the beat counter ticking) and it continues to play back samples and transmit midi.

These freezes don't seem to be triggered by a particular action but random. Unpowering the MPC seems to unfreeze it sometimes or sometimes it unfreezes on its own. The entire freezing/unfreezing seems unpredictable.

After some time with the error persisting it was no longer able to read the zip disks
Disk Write Error when trying to save samples
Error 0000:D27F appears if I attempt to format a zip

Attempts fix:
First I removed the expanded RAM but the freezing continued

Second I uplugged the ribbon cabled connecting the internal ZIP to the unit
(However I left the red and black wires used to connect power to the drive).

I have attempted to restore the OS (ver 1.20) but cant because the MPC cant read the zips



Any ideas on how to return my MPC 2000xl to working properly?

You might want to check the midi sync function if you have it midi to another module and turn off the MMC, Machine Midi Code. That makes the sound jam up and not turn off.
