MPC TO COMPUTER PROBLEMS

Whats good everybody?
Firstly want to thank anyone in advance who has any help for this issue..

Recently bought an MPC 2000xl (had the Maschine for a while, but had to make the switch over for workflow preferences). Hadn't used the floppy drive since I bought the it and it doesn't appear to be functional (won't accept the disk when I try to insert it). My question is, is there any way to transfer files freely between computer and MPC sans a floppy drive? If so, how? If not, possible solutions?

Well the 100% best way is to sample into your sampler..... chop the said sound with your sampler.... and play the chopped sound with your sampler. You don't need to convert the file to the right format... you don't need to do any of that stuff... just play an audio signal into it and push record on the sampler. You get the bonus effect of the machine's analog to digital converters which some think really beefs up the tone of the sample.


That being said, you should (since you have the 2000xl, not the regular 2000) get a cheap compactflash (CF) card reader installed. They can be had for under 5 bucks on ebay, but you can get some nice ones with built in mounting brackets for like 30 bucks. There is a card reader thread in the 2000/2000xl section. This will allow you to save and load files, and yes.... transfer them from the computer.

Card reader would be my first choice.

You can use MIDI Sample Dump Standard (MIDI SDS), if you have a MIDI interface on your computer, along with an application that supports MIDI SDS, which provides sample transfer over MIDI, but it is a bit slow, and only transfers a single sample at a time.

Last question I have (not sure if this will be in the thread), what's the best way to have the CF card reader installed? Would I be able to do it? or would it be too risky and have to be professionally done?

I'm not really tech savvy so alot of this stuff can be a bit daunting.. I'm up for the challenge just dont want to damage my MP...
