Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Just recently got my grubby paws on a 2Kxl & coming from a 1000/2500 JJOS upbringing its been an interesting learning curve.
Iv been having some trouble with the loop screen. I've set my start & end zones & have loop turned on but instead of the sound looping it plays to the end & then there is a horrible stuttering beep tone....
Have I got some parameter set wrong or is there a problem?

Iv tried searching & reading the manual. Any help would be great.

oh yeah... so the way it works is.. the sample starts playing from the start point when you push the pad, and the goes to the end point but loops around and restarts not at the start point again, but it goes to the loop point... so move that to the same place as the start point.

that is done that way so you can play a sample (let's say it's 2 seconds long) and have only the last second loop instead of the whole sample.

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks.
I'll try that when I get home...

Not worth starting another thread but I got another question....
I had an 8 bar sequence going & tried recording a track which played back fine until about the 5th bar then silence? I tried re-recording it but it keeps doing the same thing.
Any ideas where I'm going wrong there?

hmm I am not sure 100% without more info.

is it actually a sequence that is 8 bars long on the mpc? and how exactly did you make it 8 bars? did you make a shorter sequence and try to copy it?

what you might need to do if that is the case is make sure when you copy sections that you have the "from" and "to" times right.

I started off with 4 bars then copied it to 8. All my other tracks copied & played ok.

oh well i don't know exactly what happened... but it probably was a little issue with the copying. I think try to replace again to get it to work.

Thanks for the quick reply man. I'll have another go at it tonight.
Could I of ran out of RAM? I've got the 32mb installed but I did have a few samples running in there. Can I find out how much RAM I have left?
Sorry to sound so noobish. I have tried looking these things up first, honestly.

no i don't think so... you would need to record like 3 minutes of stereo (like 6 minutes mono) to fill the sample ram if you have the 32mb expansion.

What can mute sounds is running out of polyphony.. so you have more sounds playing at once than it can handle.. but that usually makes the new sample mute an old sample.. though it has never happened to me on an XL.

The other thing maybe is running out of midi events... which is unlikely to happen on the XL because it can do 300,000 events... essentially pushing a pad is an event, releasing that pad is an event.... you get the drill... how this most commonly happens (running out of events) is if you are sequencing external gear and you record parameter automations via midi.... ie: tweaking a filter on a VA synth and recording the motion via midi. a lot of that can make you run out quick... but you are unlikely to run out still with 300,000 events... the mpc60 that can do 60,000 events it has happened to me once or twice when I had too many automations recorded..

I can't picture what else it could be. My suspicion is that it didn't copy the 4 bars correctly... so from bar 5 to bar 9 it was filled with blank space.

Just tried again... Worked perfectly first time. I definitely feel like a noob now.
Mr Debauch, I thank you.

Prepare for more questions
