Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I think I read somewhere on here that you can only save 512 files to a CF card? Or that the 2000xl is only capable of reading that many off the card? I didn't know how to approach the search function with those questions.

I do know that some cards have difficulty with partitioning and whatnot and am aware of difficulties with saving on 1+ gig cards, and that things can get screwy if you put too many folders within too many folders, but what I'm talking about is a max file amount you can put on one card, regardless of how much memory is actually used by the samples.

I basically have a lot of samples, while being nowhere close to using all the memory on the card, and will be putting more on this one card and don't want to max it out file-wise (which I will come close to doing if it's indeed a 512 file max).

Did I misinterpret something and get my information wrong, or can someone point me to a topic for educating myself on this matter?

1 file = 1 entry
1 folder = 1 entry

Taken from a thread titled 'File Size' if you search within this one it'll come up. I read through it, this is the sum of it

So you could make partitions to have 512 max entries in each

I'm pretty sure that you can save more than 512 files in MPC-2000XL formatted CF card.
1GB is the largest partition size that 2000XL can handle; you can use 2GB CF card (I only recommend Sandisk CF cards with XL), but you can use only 1GB of the CF card.
Obviously you can't have a lot of sound library on the CF card, but since you can transfer file from PC to the CF card, I'd just copy files I need, then use them on XL. Of I'd just sample audio coming from my Mac with my XL.

If you really need to be able to access all of your library, 2000XL may not suit your workflow.

yeah, per directory..... could you imagine needing snar0254.snd? that would be a nightmare.

audition sounds on the computer and sample them in as you need them for a beat, going through hundreds of one shots on an MPC2000xl is a nightmare.

I agree with Mr. Debauch, and that's what I do sometimes.
