Just got my first MPC 2000 in, seems like it's shot...

First off, I apologize if this is redundant. I've searched all over, including this forum, and it's definitely helped me to form an opinion on my issue but I'm still looking for some more specific answers.

I just got my first 2000 (long time want!) for $130 off ebay. The only issue made note of in the listing was a crack in the screen, not a big deal. The seller won it in an auction, said it was tested and functions and I was happy with that. Aside from the EXTREME lines in the screen it seemed to boot up just fine the first night I turned it on. After 3 days of having it, I have yet to use it because every time it's turned on now (which I have to do 5-6 times before it will actually boot up to the main screen) it becomes totally unresponsive once I hit shift+sample. At best the cursoer has worked long enough for me to move over to the threshold setting, once i was able to change that with the jog wheel. If i attempt to sample then it says "waiting on input signal" and freezes. Usually the buttons have all become unresponsive before I make it that far. This is the extent of the use I have been able to get out of my MPC.

From what I can gather the PCB board is fried? Which I can't afford (as is the case with most things, hence why I didn't own an MPC until I found for $130 )

Any tips, etc would be appreciated. Basically all I'm asking is if there is any fix that would be affordable/worth the money or if I'm just stuck with trying to figure out how to sell this paperweight. Thank you guys in advance!

well lines in the screen means the mpc is done... that is never a good buy unless the mpc is for parts and you have a good screen from another machine.

You would have been better off saving the money on the side and waiting until you had enough for a fully functioning machine.


honestly, I think maybe you could try checking if any of the cables shook loose during shipping... but it doesn't sound like it's worth fixing if anything is fried... at least you only dropped 130. Keep it on the side maybe, or see what parts you can sell if you open it up. Did it come with any expansion modules like the 8 outs or the EB16 fx card? if so you are in luck.

Like the guy above me said, you should have continue to save up your cash to buy something more decent.

I've fixed a lot of MPC 2000 classic, and I've never seen one is such a bad shape.

The only thing I can say is good luck with that...

no worries man, i was apprehensive on bidding but after so many years of them not being in my budget i just said **** it and went for it. live and learn i guess.

unfortunately no 8 outs expansion, etc. so i'll probably just try to sell it for parts or not working. any ideas on what i should be asking for it? thanks a lot to both of you for taking the time to answer! peace.

I'm glad you took my comment the right way man. I really wasn't trying to be an a*shole I don't comment often here, but I'm always looking to see if I can help somebody.

If you want to resell it for parts, it's kinda hard to give you a price when you can't pinpoint what part(s) aren't working.

What I would do is put it on eBay with a starting price of $49.99 and see where it goes. Just mention in your description that it is not working and sold AS IS.

And keep looking on eBay for a nice MPC 2000. You can easily find one in working condition with no options (fx card, 8 outputs) for about $300.

Good luck my friend and don't let this bad experience get you down. Once you'll find a nice MPC, you won't remember what just happened to you

well I honestly would keep it if you will buy another mpc2000 soon... because maybe some parts can be used as spares besides the screen... maybe the pad sensors and the pads themselves.. maybe some other stuff. But if that isn't happening soon, sell it.

maybe you should get an mpc500 for under 250 on ebay.

I don't know what planet half these sellers are on with these buy it now prices. This seller could have at least left the 8 out card in.

I totally agree with you Richie.
I bought my MPC 2000 classic in 1999 and beside a few paint chips, it's still in crazy good condition.
I don't know how you can manage to f*ck up and MPC like the one you just posted.
Do people use it as boat anchor or something?
Or maybe as traction aid for their car during winter?

@rhythm-x I don't get it either, that 2000 has ebola. Maybe they used it for stashing dope out in BC. Who really knows haha.

OMG!! Just the screen alone will cost the poor buyer 2 to 3 times the cost of the MPC.

I like the 500 dollar MPC's I see in Toronto with dead screens or screens with lines.

I saw a guy in the summer trying to sell a dead screen MPC for $600 because he paid 450 for an EB-16 back in 2001. Or another genius who wants to trade his XL with lines, no 8 out, no card reader or even zip drive for a 2500. I don't know what planet people live on.

yeah you guys don't have it too great over there with craigslist and kijiji music equipment posts... we don't have it great here either for the stuff I am interested in.

@mr_debauch I agree with you. Funny thing is, most of the gear I've seen in recent time has been on the MTL Kijiji but with the insane prices that Canada post charges, it isn't worth even bothering.

You guys should make sure you check the 'free' sections on CL and Kijiji. I saw a pair of S1000 + S1000PB for free. 1 day later, someone else posted the pair for $200, I was going to grab it but got busy and didn't seal the deal.

yeah sometimes it can be okay.. it isn't what it used to be though. Like 6-7 years ago, I used to keep a stack of cash at home at all times and I would snag deals all day as soon as they popped up.

The worst I saw and missed was on freecycle like 4 years ago someone just simply gave away a fully working s1000KB. I was so disappointed I missed that one.
