Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey,

I've been searching for info on my 2000xl problem for a minute online and can't get anything, so I turn to you, friendly forum users to help me...so if this is supposed to go in the newbie forum (I'm not a MPC newbie, but a service newbie) then feel free to flame me or whatever....so here's the deal:

I bought my 2000xl off a friend who never used it. It lived under his bed for a year and I got it, brough it home, started making beats and it was all gravy....but the damned floppy drive never worked well. Always gave disk errors on reads and writes, so I opened the case, removed the drive, brough it to my work (a PC store) and cleaned it with a drive cleaner, and then with compressed air. Tested it in a standard PC, it read and wrote disks A-OKAY. Then I got it home, popped it back in, and now the MPC wont even boot...

It gives me a soft clicking noise "tuk....tuk...tuk....tuk...." and doesn't init the LCD at all. So here's my question....what did I do?

Is it a backwards cable? Is it a blown power supply? Have I destroyed it in some way, because I upgraded the ram myself and it was fine after....

Any thoughts? I haven't been able to find this error online... so before I pay an overpriced service guy at a music store, if y'all could help me out, that'd be great...

Thanks in advance,

SH

SUCCESS!!!

Here's a new one for you.....

Tired endlessly to position the cable as Phatz said...nothin....

Checked the fuses....a-okay.....so what was the problem?

The floppy cable was bad...replaced it with a stock one from my work, now the damned thing boots no problem...

Thanks to the board for the help, I'll throw up some sh*t to pay y'all back...
