Installed SD Card Reader into MPC 2000XL

Just a heads up, it is possible to install a SD card reader into your 2000xl. Mine appeared to recognize an 8GB SD card after install.

How much space does the card actually show after format. I've used different IDE card readers that'll recognize 8 gig but when it is formatted it still shows up as 1gb.

How can I check the space after format?

i'm more curious how the data holds up over time... saving, loading, etc...

Goto save and it'll show you how much space is available.

B-I-N-G-O ! Excellent question! I bet that non-hotswap unit sd card reader only formats 1GB and the rest of sd memory is unused.

FYI, the PCD60B multi-slot card reader can also handle SD and microSD(with adapter) cards but only at the pcmcia I/II slot which means a sd-pcmcia card adapter. Also, you have to be careful what kind of sd-pcmcia card adapter you get because some max out at 2GB while others will do 16GB for the mpc2000 and mpc2000xl(1.14os). so be careful what you buy and ask questions.

that's right and exact. I'm using a 16GB SD in my PCD 60B right now. Here is one that I verify can handle 16GB. http://www.premiertek.net/products/card ... 18IN1.html

@auscience they're even cheaper if you know what to search for on eBay. I paid $2 for mine

That $20 adapter in the second link is basically a pin converter, there is no additional technology inside it. The ability to hot swap has to do with the controller on the PCD.

I have that same exact card reader, it is an Addonics IDE-SD Adapter (ADIDESDB). I see no mention of this model anywhere else on the board. It has a PHISON controller on the PCB that is doing some high level translation. Very much like the IDE DIGIDRIVE PRO (AEUDMD4) that big noise radio used to sell, out of the box these are a no go on the mpc 2000xl. I believe people are flashing alternative firmware NOT supplied by Addonics, to these readers. I have both and neither work with the MPC 2000XL. I can get the AEUDMD4 to read, I even updated my OS from it, but it will not format any type of media (smart media, compact flash, sd, EVEN SONY MEM STICK) without freezing with an error or dumping to the debug screen. I am certain the reason is because these readers are having an issue with reporting the media as removable/fixed confusing the MPC OS. Maybe with some help (which I doubt as everyone wants to sell these for 200 bucks once they figure it out) we can make them work. I saw someone else on her claim they got AEUDMD4 to work with no problem.. I will also be investigating using wi fi equipped sd cards in compact flash adapters.. and I will gladly share the information and model numbers.

After saving some drums and a few sequences the save button says .....

So it looks like it only formatted 1GB correct?

Yes that means it only formatted 1gb.
