Better Signal for Sampling

Sorry it this topic has been posted before. I searched before posting a new thread, but could not get the answer I needed.

When sampling into the 2000xl my signal in has to much noise. I wanted opinions before I go spending money. Currently my samples are on my computer. I have a Diamond Extreme 5.1 sound card. O am currently going out of the mini (1/8?) out port, directly into my 1/4 ins on the MPC. I have a terrible hiss in the cable. The cable was pretty hard to find. Not sure if I can find a better cable. I tried going into a pretty amp (VTB1) just for comparison, with the output low on the computer. No difference.

How should I fix this problem? Get a better sound card?

I also have a Digi 003, but it would really be a pain to load every sample into pro tools to play.

Think playing them in Pro Tools and using the Digi 003's outs would help?

It's most likely your soundcard. Personally I wouldn't want to use a internal soundcard for this type of thing, especially since yours was manufactured for gaming with.
I currently use a nice external one (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6) that just plugs in to your USB and the quality is really good. Also has a the 1/4 jacks for input and output.

a couple things

raise the gain on your computer output - maybe even all the way - put the mpc rec gain in the middle and raise it on the computer until you get a good signal.
experiment with it.

if you could use the digi, yes that will be better in every situation, tho maybe not necessary. can you not use the digi with other software other than protools?

basically, you are doing it the slowest way possible, so might as well give up complaining about doing it fast or not - you've got to deal with it. my opinion is that the best way to do this would be to start using a card reader and just transfer the samples....but that is a whole other can of worms.

Any opinions on the following USB interfaces?

I have the digi 003 and a mini Mbox. Honestly the pres suck on both. I haven't tried other software w/ these items besides pro tools. I'll check on it tonight.

I didn't know if my computer could read the SD card since it was formatted in the MPC. Again I'll try this out. This would probably be best as it wouldn't add anything to the samples. I'll just chop them on the MPC. This sounds like the best route. I'll try it tonight. For some reason I was thinking the computer wouldn't read or would corrupt the SD card formatted by the MPC.

the wire might make noise when its unplugged because it's designed to be plugged in - this doesnt really tell you anything.

the pre's have nothing to do with this - that is on the input of the soundcard. saying something like this really pushes the case for any problems being user error.

the best thing to do is to format the drive in the computer as FAT. then both the computer and yer mpc can use it.
are you on mac or pc? last i tried it, mac adds a bunch of garbage files that can make the card appear not to work in the mpc. you just remove those files and its fine again.
so what i do is run a virtual xp machine using virtual box.
if you are on pc this shouldnt be an issue.

apologies if that's how it came across - it is the internet.

i try to include as much objective information as possible, hopefully outweighing any e-feelings people pick up on, but i understand user error / inexperience is a touchy subject.

you will get there, just persevere and do as much as you can on your own, with what you got.

Can you upload a pic of the cable/connectors or tell exactly what kind of cable this is?

I sample out of my wack ass sound card and it's loud enough.
Like these Dudes are saying, it is probably the lead you are using.

You need a mono one.
Otherwise it splits the signal.

You can just make one out of bits of wire.
They usually work.
