2000 not saving all sequences and tracks....

i worked on a track yesterday, and after making changes to the track, i did a save all sequences and songs, a save all programs and sounds... i had 14 tracks, and 12 different sequences, as well as a song tracked out in song mode... after turning it off and then turning it back on last night, i found that the only thing saved was my initial first save, with 1 sequence and 8 tracks... each time i did a save it asked if i wanted to rename the files, or replace the files since it noticed i was saving the exact same name for the sequence/song, and the program/sounds... what am i doing wrong here???

we are talking about the 2000 classic with floppy disks?

If so, what I like doing in that situation is.. you have your save on floppy from earlier but you added to it.. take another new floppy disk (or how ever many you need) and format them and save everything... then format the actual floppies you have for the project and save everything new on those. The problem is.. let's say you even trimmed a few milliseconds off the tails of each of your samples too... you want those replaced as the saved ones.

i should have added...this is all done with an external hotswap 16gb cfcard reader...

i did a sequence loop with 8tracks on it...the way i work is just adding tracks to that sequence and using the mute on/off for real time play back... then i will copy that sequence over and over and mute/ unmute certain tracks with each sequence...then arrange it all in song mode...

i did sequence 1 with 8 tracks on it...i did a save all sequence & song, then a save all program with sounds.... i late came back to it, added 6 more tracks, and then copied that 1st sequence 11 times... made changes to the track mutes, and a few changes to a couple of the tracks in each sequence (ie taking hi hat out, or adding a snare hit)... then i went back and did a save all sequence & song, and save all program and sounds...at this point, it asked me if i wanted to rename it or replace...i just hit replace, thinking it would replace all the sequences and sounds... it did not...

yeah that's an error... it is supposed to replace it. I would suggest saving it new (in a new spot) and deleting the original.. then saving again in the spot where the original was located... basically manually replacing it.

i have been renaming each sequence and program when working on something new... its to bad the 2000 classic doesn't save to folders like the xl... its trial and error man, i can't be that upset, i at least have the initial loop and all the sounds seem to have saved correctly... oh well, back to the drawing board... thanks for the tip though

Format your CF with as many partitions as you can get around 32mb so you can use them as folders. You still need to remember which partition you're using. But when you get the hang of it, it's not much of a problem.

i am assuming if i partition the cfcard, it will reformat and i will lose what i have on it already correct?

Yeah. Backup what you got to another card or your PC. Also, remember that when you partition a disk or CF card, that your PC will only see the first partition. So keep the partitioned card to use only with your MPC.
