Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi guys,

My MPC is a 2000XL MCD with a IOMEGA ATAPI ZIP 100 internal drive. The MPC recognises the ATAPI device in the Save/Load/Format screens but it does not recognise any ZIP disk I have put inside it. I have tried 4 in total, 3 which were brand new just out of the plastic.

When I insert the disks it clicks once and no more there after. I understand the click of death has the symptom of a repeated clicking sound. Is that correct?

Should my next point of call be a new ZIP drive? I just wonder is mine busted or not?

Thanks for any help.

I would try another zip drive first and then upgrade the XL to a CF reader.

Thanks for the reply.

I can get a brand new 100mb internal Zip Drive for ~$60 locally. I will gladly purchase and install it if I knew it would work. My fear is that something is wrong with the MPC.

I live in Australia, purchasing one of those Card reader things from the US will cost a fair bit once shipping is added. I'm trying real hard to avoid that.

believe it or not, there's actually an Australian site selling SCSI SD card adapters: http://shop.codesrc.com/

their wiki says that they have been confirmed to work with the MPC 2000XL.

As you can see they've got 2 different models available, an external and an internal one.

Thank you very much for this information!

@Wallace, you won't need a SCSI card reader for your XL though - unless you want hot swap. Otherwise, an IDE cf reader should cost you $25-35aud which would work fine.

I don't need hot swap and $35 sounds good to me. Would you be so kind to direct me to which IDE card will work with my MPC 2000XL MCD? FYI the OS is 1.14.

I have ordered a new 100MB ATAPI Zip drive which should arrive soon. I have a Zip with 1.2 OS on it. I will probably install that if I can get the new drive up and running.

Thank you all.
