External SCSI Reader for Compact Flash Card?

Hi peeps,

on the internal ATAPI port of my 2000XL I have a reader for my compact flash card, but it is not hotswappable and it is being treated like a regular harddrive. I've heard that the SCSI connection should be a better, less quirky option. Therefor, I want to let the cardreader on the ATAPI port and buy additionally an external CF Cardreader to connect with the SCSI Port on the back of my MPC. But I can't find one?

They used to have an external reader available but it's been replaced by a newer one.

Hi, thanks, but these all are the raw boards and parts, I need a mounted and housed reader, ready to use, just like I'd buy an external ZIP drive. No time to build and test it on my own. Where can I get it?

You won't find an affordable one like that. There is the Mictotech PCD 47B but those sell for $500 upwards.

With the boards I've linked, you don't need to build anything, just plug it in basically

SCSI is a niche 'technology' that's died out so there aren't many solutions available that are cheap and nicely built

You could buy the Artmix one and then buy yourself an external scsi enclosure and build your own that way.

The Artmix is not hotswappable, but otherwise, beside it's uglyness ok. I still would consider something expensive like the Mictotech PCD 47B because I have several older Akai samplers with SCSI connection and I want an external powered device that can be connected just where I need to use it. Are there other models/products like the PCD 47B?

Artmix is hot swap afaik. Raizin/Fuzinmonster are advertised as hot swap and others have reported that they are.

I'm not aware of any external SCSI card readers that are 'ready to go' but make sure to ask in the gearslutz thread I posted earlier, there are some knowledgeable people in there.

Also another alternative you might consider is MO (magneto-optical). It's very reliable and the capacity is decent (Akai samplers can read disks up to 540MB). There are definitely external MO drives available.

those pcd47b units cannot be found anymore and is probably the only one for sale at this time. maybe someone desperate enough may buy it for that mad money.

the external hot-swap cf drive offered by mpcstoragesolution.com does work with the mpc2000xl (and the classic mpc2000 too). I use 1.14 operating system on my sampler so that I can use 16gb cf cards. of course you can use any size cf cards up to 16gb. the drive is multislot but ONLY the pcmcia I/II slot works as mentioned by mpcstoragesolution. you will need the cf-pcmcia adapter card to connect the cf card to the drive. by the way sd card are also recognized but a different pcmcia adapter card is needed. I bought all my card readers from mpcstoragesolution and I am very happy with them.

contact them directly (mpcstoragesolution) if you are not in the united states and they will provide details. if you own an mpc2000xl with 1.14 and want hot-swap, then these are the guys.
