mpc2000XL with YAMAHA Motif series

what is the best way to hook up my mpc2000xl to my yamaha motif xf 8?
how i want to work with my beats;


mpc 2000xl
yamaha motif XF8
yamaha mg12xu(USB audio interface/MIXER)

i currently do not have any DAW softwares at the moment, but will be getting cubase soon,
can some one please tell me what would be the best way to make beats with the equipment i have

i would use the motif sounds and simply trigger the tracks on the motif via midi out the mpc.
for an example, look up anchorsong live on youtube - pretty sure that was his exact setup. he would use it kind of like a live looping thing but using midi rather than audio.

you could still have your drums sampled in the mpc though - you've need a mixer or if the yamaha has an input thru, that would work.

You probably want to start with a MIDI handshake

Motif MIDI out - > MPC MIDI in
MPC MIDI out - > Motif MIDI in
Motif audio outputs - > Audio interface inputs
Audio interface outputs - > speakers

This will let you record what you play on the the keys as MIDI info on the MPC main screen, then have that trigger the Motif to play. Check the Motif manual you will need to set up the global MIDI settings, usually you want multitimbral mode but I'll let the Motif users ring in on specifics.
