Pads on MPC200XL

I have had my MPC2000xl for a while now and recently a few of the pads have something wrong with them. When I hit them, the sound plays sometimes plays twice I think because it bounces up when I hit it and then down again. But it plays the sounds very quickly, not as if i hold the pad down and after a few seconds it plays the sound again. I am not sure whether to take the MPC apart and what to do.

hehe I got the same problem only A1 A2 and A3 the most used hard hited pad. A16 is so fresh and so clean and feels likes its new

yeah, sometimes its cool when that happens tho....you get that mini snare roll....or kick stutter. It's nice to freak it like that once you got the control down.

yo get the 333 down to brixton and i am not far from u holmes, it could be tht your pads need cleaning, mine are like tht, but for the time being, i himt them very quickly, to avoid tht roll effect, lampdog had an article about preventative maintainace of the mpc, pads maybe he can shed some light on it.

nah u just gotta break it in and just get used to wackin em. That used to happen to me but i havent had that for a long time. U gotta wack it quick with ur finger and get off it quick

Binger know whats up. My xl is new and does that, I was wondering why, and then I realised it wasn't the mp, it was me. The pads have to wear in first, but even then you gotta make sure you give them a clean hit.

I used to do that too at first. It's the way you hit it.

yo anybody know what the deal is when i hit one pad another pad will play . this happens to me on pads 15 and 16 sometimes. ill hit 15 to play and all of a sudden 16 cancels it out and plays real quietly and i know pad 16 is not set up to turn pad 15 off so i know it's definitely not that. any suggestions?

I took my MPC2000 apart one day. Being that electronics was a hobby since I was 8, now a profession, I always wanna know how Ish ticks.
Your pads are made of some type of Rubber or latex. When you hit them, they press on small MEMBRANE switches. Each pad has its own Membrane switch underneath it made of some sort of conductor typically Copper. The Membrane switch has a Convex Upward curvature so that it will Spring back ^^once you release it. The distance between the contacts on these membrane switches is very small, and can change over time. You may notice that some pads do this more than others. That could be because some of the pads are used more frequently than others. Try using some pads that you don't normally use that much. BUT....THis is why your sounds Roll or Double up. The pads like I mentioned are either Rubber or latex and when you hit them, they Vibrate. The positioning of the membrane switch at that particular time and moment is JUST SO....That the vibration is transmitted thru the pad to the switch and makes it vibrate too....Thats whats up. Like my man said, Quick Snaps to the pad will eliminate that problem. don't have "lazy fingers" so to speak.
It happens to the best of us....NOW...having said that. When you hit a pad and it STAYS on?..On to the point where you have to power down your MPC to clear the problem?...Now you got Issues! Time for a New membrane switch Array.

you are right...... just get use to the way to hit it.

I hit my pads on my mp7 and it sounds weak, cause you have to hit them differant;

and take care of those pads! i mean, you want your mpc to last as long as possible, so i dont think you have to wear anything in, just get use to it.

thanks for the help everyone. i didn't want to take it apart incase it was a really small "membrane", as you said, and knocked it out of place and **** up the whole mpc. it is pad 1 and sometimes pad 2. pad 1 is always kick and 2 is snare for me. i guess i just have to move the sounds around. but yeah i like it when it gives that drum roll effect even though it isn't meant to.

I could get the 109 or 250 probably. i live further towards croydon than the 333 goes. i live just before london road but still in streatham. where abouts in brixton you at?
