MPC 2000 XL sampling screen issue

Hello everyone.

Just bought my first MPC 2000 XL on ebay, w. CF cardreader, 8 outs, 32mb and the effect card. It was supposedly in perfect condition, but I've already encountered a problem when entering the sampling screen, where it starts to make weird distorted scratchy noises. If I go back to main screen and goes into sampling screen again they often stop. Also, when I've sampled something, and then goes on to sample something else, some of the samples I already made starts to distort. If I turn the MPC off and on the samples are usually fine again. I've searched around on the topic, also on this forum, and can't find a completely similar issue. But some guy had problems with his RAM and his problems sounded somewhat alike to mine. So it seems to me as if something's up with the RAM, either I need to clean them or change them completely. I made two videos to illustrate the issue.

I'm using mono cables, stereo output from the mpc is going through my mixer and speakers. The problems are the same when I only have headphones connected and nothing else.

Basically the MPC is not in the described condition, so I should be able to get my money back. But you know, i've lusted for this machine for a while now so it would be a shame. The big question is if this is a quick, easy and inexpensive RAM-fix, or something else and more serious.

What do you guys think?

You can easily take the Ram out and run the mpc temporarily on the internal ram.
If this cures the problem then buy new ram (it's really cheap these days) and install it.
If you can't wait, try cleaning the contacts on the ram with a Q-tip and Isopropyl alcohol but keep your fingers off. then reinstall and test.


You may want to let the seller know of the problem and that you are willing to try to fix it just to cover yourself should you not have success.

Hey Pilchard, thanks for the quick reply! I'll try to remove the Ram as you described as soon as i'm in the studio again. Good idea. Already told the seller, he claims he knows nothing of the issue, and has no idea how to fix it.
