MPC Classic into Audacity

Ahh! I have a dope beat, an mpc 2000 classic, a y cord, a dell latitude 3330 and audacity. I cannot get audacity to recognize the mpc's signal. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is record the track I've made on the mpc into audacity in my laptop. I do not want to split tracks or anything other than take a straight copy. What the heck? Please help!

if you have the main outs going to the line input on the laptop... you need to go into the audacity preferences to set up stereo input and what inputs.

I think you also have to turn monitoring on, either by clicking the little microphone-looking icon under the meters or by pressing pause & then record. If I recall correctly that is.

So, I continue to want to bash my brains in because of this. I have a dell which has no stereo input recording option. I've spent all weekend tying to figure out how to add it to my options but have had no luck because the explanations are super technical. Surely there is a way to plug the damn mpc into the line in jack on my computer and record. I do not need to mix anything and would be super relieved just to get this simple thing accomplished. If there is anyone available to walk me through this, I would be incredibly grateful.

right click the volume icon in the task bar.. click recording devices.. you will see a list of all available inputs. right click the line input, set as default device. then right click it again, go to properties and go to the levels tab to make sure it isn't muted.

if for some reason you cant see the line input... google search realtek AC97 audio driver and install it and try again...
