My Samples played from record inputs are distorted

Before posting I searched this forum and other websites looking for my answer but I can't seem to find anything helpful so I decided to make a post hopefully someone has an idea of what I'm doing wrong. i just recently bought a used mpc 2000xl and Iam trying to sample from auxiliary. I went to RadioShack and the set me up with 2 1/4" adapters and 2 auxiliary into a single auxiliary. I personally did not want to go this route but they had no 1/4" directly to aux.

Iam very new to this kind of stuff but I gave it a try, previously I was just messing around on my mpc using a the standard drum set floppy and my aux was plugged into my phones input on the mpc and the sound was very clear and sounded great through my stereo system. But now that I've got the left and right 1/4" to aux that I got from RadioShack connected in the record inputs on my mpc, I open sample to sample from any device that will take aux, I was just using YouTube on my iPad for a test, the sound is very distorted and I have to pretty much crank the volume on my mpc all the way up to even hear it. But the sound is going through my mpc into my stereo but it's not very good quality. I can sample it and play it back but it just sounds like shit.

Iam wondering if it has anything to do with the aux output from my stereo system it is an rca to aux and I have it plugged into video 1. If Iam not trying to sample from the record inputs the sound is great like I said, so I don't know what's messing it up. Also when I wired my speakers I have 2 pioneer tall towers and 2 Sony smaller speakers all wired into my stereo, but when I shift the mixer slider on my stereo to the right no sound will play but if it's in the middle or on the left it will play out of all of my speakers. I do not know what is distorting my sound samples from aux into the record inputs. Does anyone have any idea what Iam not doing right? Maybe because my record in wires don't have left or right so I have to guess because it's just 2 auxiliary cords into 2 1/4" adapters going into a single auxiliary out adapter.

Please no negative answers we were all beginners once. This is really frustrating me if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much, looks like I'm going back to radio shack. If I connect my studio beats into the phone in, instead of going through my stereo I still get a lot of feedback and I have to crank my main volume and rec gain, the 1/4" aren't labeled left or right so I switched them to see if it would make a difference but it still is really quiet unless I crank that volume but than I get that feedback, so does this mean that it is the adapters? I'm pretty sure those are the cords I was looking for when I was there but they were out, so of course they give me an exspensive but poor quality alternative. I will probably end up buying high quality wires. Do you know of any brands? I was checking out some monster ones and they looked pretty nice. Also I checked out your band camp, pretty dope stuff. Thanks for your help.
