Issues MPC MIDI sync as Master with Cubase

Hi all,

Ive been trying this for so long now and is really p***** me off. I hope someone can help me.
I want to use my MPC 2000xl as a Master, so I can control everything behind the MPC (for workflow purposes)
Cubase 5 is the DAW I'm using. Ive already managed to use the MPC as a slave using MIDI Clock and MTC (both are working). I can control my MPC from Cubase.

- MPC MIDI 1 IN is connected to mine USB MIDI OUT
- MPC MIDI A OUT is connected to mine USB MIDI IN

MIDI settings on the MPC:
SYNC - IN (1) ------------------------------- SYNC - OUT (A)
MODE MTC FRAME RATE 30 ------------------------------------------ MODE MTC FRAME RATE 30
SEND MMC ON----------------------------------------SEND MMC ON

In Cubase Ive tried all possible settings. SYNC IN works on the MPC, but SYNC OUT not.
MIDI linkss are active when using the port scan in Cubase.
External sync is also enabled

Ive watched alot of Howto's on youtube but couldnt fine right answer. Also took the operations manuals and followed everything to setup the MPC as a master. But without any success.
Please can you share your knowlegde with me and your settings in Cubase/MPC if its possible

Sounds stupid but Ive tried it again today and it just worked in the first minute. If there any with the same issue as mentioned above, Ill share the settings.

Glad you got it sorted. I was gonna write that Cubase is one of the most reliable DAWs when slaving to an MPC, I'm surprised you have problems. But never mind, seems to have all worked out!

Thanks for your reply anyway. I have two little more questions.

1. When using MTC(FPS 30, MMC ON) the timing is a bit off. Both sequences are set to 86.00 bpm. When I locate the 2nd bar on the MPC 2.1.00, Cubase showing me something like 1.4.90
Any ideas how to fix this ?

2. When slaving Cubase to the MPC all MPC navigation buttons are working except for the Record button. Play, Stop, Locate works. How can I make the Record button work in Cubase when controlling from the MPC ?

Well on your first question, without getting too deep into it I'll just mention that MIDI is a 300 baud (and 30+ year old) method of getting two machines to communicate with each other, so there are going to be some serious timing inconsistencies, you'll never get them perfectly locked. Again, Cubase is one of the tighter DAWs, so at least you're good in that regard. The other bottleneck in your system might be your MIDI interface, many of the cheaper ones are terrible with sync.

On the 2nd question, I don't think you can. MMC is only for play, stop & location. You can't command another machine to be put in record mode.
