Recording Track Mutes?

I searched and couldnt find this, so can anyone tell me if this is possible? I just want to go into track mute mode and record real time, is that not happening ? If its possible, anyone know how i can do it ?

No.... we know what you want to do which is build a song in real time, but unfortunately you cannot.

What you can do is build a big sequence. Start experimenting with track mutes & when you find a combination of tracks that would be a good intro copy that to another sequence. Then go back to your first one & work out what the next tracks to come in should be. Once you've got them, copy that bunch to a new sequence. Carry on this way & then put those sequences together in a song.

It isn't quite what you are wanting to do, but it is probably as close as you will get.

i've done a beat in realtime before. i do it a lot.

this is what i do. since i record into cool edit pro i hit record in c.e.p. when i start off of course the beat may need an intro. so before i press play i have all the tracks muted that i dont want playing. i press play and start recording the beat. gradually i unmute the tracks in the order i want them to come on. for example...when it startes playing i may wanna bring the hihats in so i spin the wheel to hats and turn it on when i want it....then spin the wheel to the kick then snare and turn those on etc......when the verses come in i spin to the instrument i wanna turn off and mute that track. then bring it back in when i want it in. i guess this is what you mean by "real-time."

Yeah, you're gonna have to build some sequences and build a song. I do a lot of real time stuff too. Say you got an emcee rapping over your stuff. Sometimes you want to shut off your kicks real quick, so he gets a line in ya know? So yeah, I use track muting a lot for real time stuff. But if you want to build a song in the MPC, you gotta build sequences, and save it as a song.

That's definitely a feature that should be on some newer models though, if they don't already have it (recording mutes to make sequencing instead of actually making the sequences). This is where fruity loops truly dominates with the patterns, and song mode (it's true, don't laugh). You can just build a pattern up real big, then copy your intros, and outros, hooks and other shit to new patterns. That's basically what you'd do with the MPC, but doing it without a GUI is a pain in the ass.

slave another sequnencer to the mpc, catch the midi output, save the song as midi, and put it back in the mpc.

that makes much sense nanoloop. i haven't tried it as of yet...but i will now....
