XL stuck 'cycling' through samples

Had a big chopping session last night and didn't finish so left mpc on till this morning. I'd also assigned quite a few of the samples into a program and done a basic 2-bar arrangement.

Had a listen this morning and adjusted a couple of parameters of one of the pads - MPC is now stuck - play button lit, in program parameter page, and now seems to be cycling through all the samples i chopped last night. Then it goes quiet for a bit, then restarts cycling through the samples. All buttons are unresponsive...

Needless to say... I didn't save :WTF:

Anyone got any ideas beyond turning the **** off and starting rechopping?

I was thinking "I hoped it was saved before he left it on for the night" while I was reading and
then I read "Needless to say... I didn't save"

Nothing to do but lose that work and restart I'm guessing.

I've never heard of anyone leaving an MPC on overnight without first saving everything, that really is asking for trouble. Regardless of the work you've lost, that's a sure fire way to destroy your LCD display, they only have very limited life spans before the dreaded 'lines of death' start appearing and there's no repair for this, you'll need a new screen. I'm sure there's other issues with leaving on old equipment like this for excessive consecutive hours, all that heat etc.

Anyway, take it on the chin and have a laugh about it - lesson learnt? :popcorn:

There's "no coming back" from those lines.

New screen is the only option.

i have had this glitch before but more random and distorted, still cycling through memory, i love it.

you are probably screwed on saving now - ive only ever fixed it with a reboot.

This is true, I just never heard it called lines of death until this thread. let's not forget about the pad sensor sheet of death, SCSI fuse of death and the NV slider pot of death :lol:

My 2kxl has had that forever and 15 days now, lol.
I can fix it, just never cared to since I hardly used NV NEway.

Off topic, but, I STILL think 2kxlse2 had the softest pads (after being worn in) of all hardware mpc's.

Yep.... Foolish. Didn't save because I still had some big raw samples that I needed to chop up and then purge the long unused parts... But only myself to blame. I just turned it off in the end.

Still gotta do the re-chops!

95% of the time I had to do rework I had better ideas come up AND I made improvements on the sound quality of the same samples because of time spent listening to them again. Rework isn't ALWAYS bad imo.

I agree, I've lost a fair few beats from OS bugs but they've always come out better when re-chopped.
