ZIp to CF ,Lost files ,Help

Hi I have recently updated from the old zip drive to a cf card reader which is awesome but I needed a couple of beats of a zip disk for a project so I plugged the zip in to a drive via my mac/usb (not sure if that was a good idea?) and loaded them on to the card to put back into the mpc which turned out to be a complete mess, It can't find samples and one of the programs is now the wrong file format? is there any way I can sort this out? I just need to beats then I'm done with zips for good!

i bet your file names were longer than 8-characters. that will kill those files once you plug them into a computer. depending on how bad it freaked out, your files could be lost.

never name anything on the mpc longer than 8-characters!

lamp is right with the more detailed info on what is going on.

i have been able to save files like this before by loading the media into the mpc and doing my best to figure out which sample was what. that is only on the occasion when it actually loaded the corrupt files...you never know what it is going to load when things get corrupt like this.

don't mess with it on the computer anymore - from the mpc only, see if the samples still show up and if you can at all remember what the filenames were, you can try to rename and reload things.

The best thing anyone can do if they're moving from ZIP to CF is to spend $25 and get a SCSI Zip drive for archival purposes.

Then load the beats you want off the SCSI, save to the CF using the MPC. The only time I would even attempt to use a Zip on a PC is if the Zip was formatted on 1.2, not 1.14 otherwise you'll end up either corrupting or losing your sh*t.
