MPC2000xl won't power up and makes clicking noise

Hey,

I only have the original floppy disk drive and I left it on for about a week, as I have no memory to save anything. Now when I try to turn it on, it won't power up and it makes a clicking noise. I'm guessing it's not the fuse that's the problem? Could it be that the power module has busted? I should also mention that I checked the power cable I was using and it's 250V; the MPC takes 100-240V.

Any help will be greatly appreciated - hope it's repairable. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that it is power supply, making "click of death" sound (It is not only for Zip drive.) You can get a replacement at mpcstuff dot com.

@Scandrett yeah JVC and Lampdog are being meanies.

I cannot imagine why they're not trying to "help" someone who has not bothered to lift a finger to even look inside the machine to determine where the sound is coming from.

I've seen/heard this too on a couple of other 2000XL's I've modded. The power switch PCB board went bad and had an electrical crackling noise.
But like Richie" kinda" implied, open up the MPC and see where the clicking is coming from.

Thank you for the last three replies. I'll try a new power supply first.

Ritchie - not everyone spends their time opening up electrical equipment and believe it or not, most people haven't done it before. It's good to know what you're looking for first.

@Scandrett I understand what you're saying but some basic attempt to diagnose or get a basic idea of what it could be would only be to your benefit.

So remove the bottom panel, turn the power on and listen to where the sound is coming from. If you think it is the disk drive, pull the power cord from it, turn off and on again, if you still hear the sound then you know it isn't the disk drive. Process of elimination.
