Samples are louder in Trim mode than on the main screen

Hi everyone. When i'm in trim mode on my MPC the sample i'm trimming is at a decent volume. When I chop it up and program it to pads it is always quieter than when it was in trim mode. I read a thread from 06 on here in which someone was experiencing the same problem. Has anybody figured out what might be causing this? Thanks.

probably mixer/program menu settings which don't apply when listening in trim.

Check Mixer --> SETUP --> Master Level.

It is normal for MPC-2000XL (and other MPCs) to play sample that way. And that's intentional. Reason? Once you start to play other samples phonically (among with other samples), the resulted output would clip otherwise (this is sort of mentioned on Mixer section of 2000XL manual.)
But if you want to increase the output level, you can adjust master level above 0db (I believe +12db is the maximum.)

So i'm assuming that this means it's typical for the samples to be quieter than the trim screen? I just don't want the original sample volume to affect the production later on in the recording process.

Yes, that's how MPCs behave.

No worries. Then you sequence samples, all the samples are assigned to program, and you won't trigger samples in trim mode.
