Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By LEGALIZECHEY Tue Nov 08, 2016 8:37 am
Hey. So I bought a 2kxl bout a month ago and could never get the Zip drive to work so I decided to get a card reader.

Picked up a card reader today at frys
http://www.frys.com/product/4574977?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

Used the previous power cable and a new 40 pin ribbon cable. Also running 1.14os

Just wondering if this is setup will work because when I plugged it in and turned it on. All the lights lit up like regular but never opened the "mpc2000xl" page. The screen just stayed blank....

:worthy: :worthy: :worthy: MPC wizards help me!!

I also blew a fuse on accident so gotta get a couple of them asap

The card reader you purchased at frys is no-hot swap and connects to internal ide (Atapi) port. I believe the card reader is limited to 1gb or less and swapping out of cf cards not possible when sampler is on. I wonder if the card reader is compatible with your sampler. But given you mentioned that all lights are on and the screen is blank, there is a problem that must be addressed first. Could be the SCSI fuse as you say but hard to say without proper diagnosis. Did you buy the sampler with issues or in working condition from last owner?

I just bought an internal hot-swap "scsi" cf card reader unit ( Microtech pcd47-b) from mpcstoragesolution.com that works perfectly with my mpc2000xl running operating 1.14. The card reader connects to the internal SCSI port. It has the latest firmware to allow read and write ability. I basically connect the cf card to a PCMCIA cf card adapter and insert into card reader's PCMCIA slot. I found out I can use cf cards up to 8gb and swap out anytime. I really like this card reader because it gives me maximum benefit.

But do have your sampler checked out before adding any storage drive. May have to spend a few dollars to get it fixed.

Good luck.

I use 1.14 and have internal atapi card reader.

All lights are on indicates the ribbon cable may be backwards if I remember correctly.

Is your ribbon cable keyed? If not then maybe you have it backwards.

Lampdog... the ribbon cable is not keyed, the atapi ports inside the mpc have a keyed slot tho... I'll try the previous cable which has a key...

LADiego....I purchased it from a dude off Craigslist here in phx. Everything works fine but the internal Zip drive. I have a external hard drive as well but it's a shit box and doesn't save half the time.(if I'm lucky)

Also I'm aware it's a no hot swap. I'll just deal with it for now...

Has anyone uses this drive I'm talking about? And did you get it to work? And has anyone seen your 2kxl just light up all the way and not boot up. Screen stays blank and light for buttons stay on. The leds on the cf reader show it has power and activity but no "master
Present"

Thanks for chiming in everyone. Can always turn to a good forum when in need!

I don't remember what I set my drive to.

I think 1.20 was to help with large card sizes (1gb+). I have used the same two Lexar 512 cf's since I first
installed the thing (maybe a decade ago) and nor card reader/cf's have never failed me. Going from Triton
Extreme to computer to 2kxl back and forth has never been a problem. I initially formatted the cf for FAT
and it was good to go. Stayed with naming convention of 8.3, separate folders for each project and good
never any problems.

So, again, check the cf ribbon cable, I had the lights thing happen before too, flipped it around and it all
worked fine, me, I had no problem with flipping the cable or being scared to do so, your mileage may vary
just saying.

ok i got fuses today and got it running. i checked the connection of the ribbon cable and i think it was backwards, cause now when i turn it on the mpc boots up but doesn't recognize "floppy" theres no "atapi" selection in the load/save/format screen.

i also switched the jumper to master. just wondering what the voltage should be set at....

and is 1.2 necessary?? some guys say yes some say no

all i get out of it is 1.2 reads bigger cards cause it partitions them??

I also noticed the previous cable and the one I'm using now have different serial numbers?

the original one (which is too short to use) say E97252

the new one which I also bought from frys says E189529

is there a compatibility issue with the cables? :hmmm: :hmmm:

thanks guys you've been a real help :worthy:
