MPC2000xl Midi pass thru as sequencer, Ensoniq ASR-10

Hi all,

I'd love some advice on the following setup – I'm having problems with MIDI pass thru on my 2kxl

Setup is: Ensoniq ASR-10 as controller / soundbank –> MPC2000xl as sequencer (internally sequenced drum patterns) - > Korg MS20, Moog Minitaur, Yamaha TX81Z, Korg Volca Keys on MIDI Channels 1, 2, 3, 4.

What I'd like:

• drum sounds from MPC

• MIDI played by ASR10 to different keyboards on separate MIDI channels

• MIDI recording onto the MPC2000xl WITHOUT recording drum information

Does that make sense?

So I'd be able to make a beat on the 2kxl, then play the various 4 synths over the top then record sequences using them, without overwriting any drum information.

Basically I need to stop the ASR10 playing the MPC at the same time as MIDI pass thru.

I have a MIDI splitter so the 4 synth control is ok.

My problem is where you say:

"To sequence synths without recording drum information is simple, just make a new track on main screen and change where it says DRUM1 to say MIDI A (or B for the other synth)"

I've tried this but the ASR keeps triggering the drum information on the MPC. Very odd!

AH figured it out, in case anyone has the same issue:

To the left of the MIDI under the Track header, there's the S / M switch.

I needed to be on "S" to mute the drum pads. Thanks!
