Wiring custom power connector for CF card reader

I've given up trying to find a cable that will connect my card reader power to the MPC circuit board. I've decided I'm going to try and take a molex connector and splice that to 4 separate leads that will plug into the header.

I know nothing about electronics, but as far as I can tell from reading the circuit diagram, the power header on the MPC is P51, and the 4-pins on the MPC board header are :

1- +5V
2&3: GND
4- +12V

My card readers has 4 pins:
1 is NC (I understand this means it is not used).
the 2 middle pins are GND
the 4th is +5V

Can I connect the +5V and ONE of the ground pins on the card reader to the +5V and ONE of the GND pins on the board header ?

Or do I need to connect both GND pins on the header to both GND pins on the card reader ?

Can I safely leave the +12V pin on the MPC board unconnected ?

The card reader only requires +5v and ground to work. So yes, you can totally ignore the +12V pin.

the 5 volt is the last one.. and use the ground next to it.

when i had the 2000xl.. i unplugged the stock power cable from the stock floppy drive... and that fit right on to the card reader.. it was the full connector but only the two wires were used.

Unfortunately, although my MPC came with a floppy, I somehow misplaced the power lead. But the floppy power connect is the mini-plug style, whereas my card reader is Molex.

Anyways, somehow when trying to get this to work I killed my MPC. Now it just says "Insert MPC2000XL disc".

So frustrating !!
