Some of the concepts will transfer to the older 2000 classic, but there are certain features the xl has which the classic lacks. Timestretch, slice and multiple programs are a few examples. The 2K classic manual is a good place to start, try the functions on the MPC as you read along or get someone to read it to you so you can focus on the menus and stuff.
The MPC2000 OS is different in some areas, so some of the tutorials in the 2000XL book will not be fully compatible. I’d estimate that 60-70% of the book is compatible with the MPC2000.
