Fat 32/ PC fat

PC fat is the one needed for the pc and the mpc to read it correct? I've tried formatting to both of these, and neither will load in my mpc. I get the "No Floppy Device" screen every time.

searched archives yes, for a while. MPC 2000xl with internal 250 zip(i think its internal). Bought 2 different disks, both 250. I formatted them to FAT on my pc. Neither work. When i try to load it, it says "No Floppy Device" What the hell's the matter? Thanks for any help.

You think it's internal?

If it's inside the MPC, it's internal. Outside the MPC is external.

You need to switch the device you're loading from on the MPC.

I'm guessing you have an internal zip drive but it is selected to load from a floppy. Change it to the zip.

Might be wrong though. I'm no expert.

How do i select it to load from the zip? I only see the floppy option, the scsi options, and F-rom. Damn i'm confused.

You didn't answer spectre's question about the zip. Is it fitted inside the MPC on the front panel underneath the transport buttons - that is internal? Is it a separate blue box on a cable that is connected to the back of the MPC - that is external?

If your zip is internal it will be where the floppy drive would have been. I don't have experience with internal zips, but maybe the MPC thinks it is a floppy drive.

If it is external, when you press SHIFT - DISK & then scroll through the Device options it should be activated when you get to SCSI-5. You should hear a click & then a motor sound from the zip drive when you get to SCSI-5, however it will still only say SCSI-5 on the MPC screen, it won't say ZIP.

Is this a new zip drive?
Is it properly connected & switched on?
Is it definately a SCSI zip drive?

Maybe the jumper on the back of the zip drive is in the wrong spot (do you even have a jumper on there kiddo?).

page 16 2kxl manual, if you have the jumper correct you will also see "DEVICE:ATAPI " option to load and save to. That would be your zip drive.

When you ask for help it's best to give ALL the info and specs on your gear your using so that someone may be able to give you a solution or viable option. Don't make us guess..

Sorry guys, i have no prior MPC experience so i wasn't sure. I have an internal 250 zip like i guessed earlier. I got the 2kxl from guitar center with just the power chord, no manual or box, so i downloaded a copy of the manual, and it did not mention anything about loading from a zip, just SCSI: Hard disk, cd, and MO Drive, and floppy. I didn't install anything, so i have no idea if i even have a jumper on there, or if it's in the right spot. I assuming its one of the above because i get no DEVICE:ATAPI option. Should i take this up with guitar center, or is there something I can do? Thanks for putting up with all of my stupid ass questions.


Edit: Also, the green light from the drive does come on, but blinks for about 10 seconds, then turns off.

Did you try what Lampdog suggested? That looked like a good idea to me.

Like i said, i didn't install it, so i'm a little cautious about opening it up. Considering i have no idea what i'm even looking for.

Unless someone can give you a link with pictures of what this jumper looks like & where it should go I guess there isn't much point in opening it up yourself.

Get in touch with the people you bought it from.

If you have installed a CDRW on a PC, you can check jumpers on the MPC. The MPC is not a god given machine, even though sometimes it feels like one, it's actually just a SIMPLE BASIC OLD ARSED COMPUTER.

I took it back to Guitar Center, and they told me it was new mpc2kxl, and not used. They gave me a list of places i can take it in my area for them to fix the zip drive.

just sounds to me like the IDE cable is loose or the connection is bad or a wrong jumper setting like Lampdog said.
