Has anyone had this problem before?

I just bought a used 2000XL from a music store (that wasnt an AKAI dealer) 2 days ago, and i've been having a problem ever since i got it....First, my samples would get a distorted (and i read that it could be caused by from a memory chip problem)...but now all of my samples are playing fine(?, seems like the problem fixed itself)....but now i got a new problem, instead my machine will all of the sudden shut down and not be able to turn back on for a few minutes. I will be in the middle of making a beat and the machine will just turn off, and when i press the 'on' button on the back it wont do anything.....but then like a minute later it will turn back on and work fine for a few hours....

The store i bought it from says they cant find anything wrong with the machine (but since they are not a akai dealer i dont think they know what they are talking about).....has anyone else experenced this problem? I will probably end up returning the machine unless i cant find the source of the problem.

I had a similar power problem when I first copped mines. I opened the sh*t and started f*ckin with the power button and it's connections. Each time I turned the power on I would see a spark on the circuit board close to the housing. I unscrewed the sh*t and looked at the soldered connections and noticed that some of the spots on the board weren't soldered correctly. I went to Home Depot, copped a soldering iron for 15 balls and soldered the connections to the board properly. Haven't had the problem since. I can't guarantee that you're having the same problem though. It's worth checkin it out tho'.

I don't know for sure what your problem is but maybe it's something to do with over heating? do you have your machine in a open space? (sorry if this is not correct or anything but I'm just trying to zero in on the problem). Not sure how your samples playing funny could have related... very strange behaviour. Is there anything you can do to get the machine replaced with another one? Is the machine you have new or used?

{N8}.....i'm pretty sure its not overheating, i was playing it in a studio with all my other gear then i moved it to a new location and played it for an hour or so and it did the same....

RonDu.....i think your right, i havent opened it up but that sounds like what the problem is.

I think i'm just going to return it and get my money back...I've had it for only 3 days and i've had a lot of problems (and i think all the problems are internal ones that could cost me in the near future)....And i've used a lot of MPC's and i know these problems shouldn't happen....i bought it used and i think the previous owner just beat the hell out of it.....thanks for the replies

If I were you I would return it and cop a new one.

On the real just from experience I would return it and just go ahead and purchase it new or find someone that has one for sale thats upgrading to a new model thats the safe way to go. When buying it new you know you have warranty incase any problems.
