PCMCIA to ATA/IDE works. You can use a CF to SDHC adapter and it should work fine. It's worked fine for me at least.

You are limited to 1gb with the PCMCIA to ATA/IDE adapters so finding cheap CF cards is not a problem. Yes they are expensive you intend on buying the top of the line largest card but this is not necessary at all due to the 2000XL not being able to address beyond 1gb in IDE mode running 1.20 firmware.

There is a possible way to address higher than 1gb but your PCMCIA card reader will not be capable of it.

Alternatively, you could get the scsi2sd which is inexpensive and will allow you to use micro sd cards, I suggest you check other threads on this as there is a lot of information out there for it.

i think you can use the adapters. if it was sold to you that way and they claim that that pcmcia reader worked, then i suppose it should be good to go.

i dont have much experience with pcmcia in an mpc, but i think i remember people using this as a viable option when card readers were hard to find.

i would say tho, don't just go for the cheapest route - maybe work with floppies or something else and save some money and really do it right. its really worth finding a good solution that works for you.

i guess i'll start with what i have received with the mpc and if it doesn't satisfy me , i guess i'll go for the scsi2sd solution
thanks a lot

igor

i have a scsi2sd in another sampler and i really love it. highly recommend that.

That is not what I'm 100% sure of because your card reader has some IC's on it which may be part of the controller. If so, then there is a strong possibility that it will work on 1.14 hence be cable to address above 1gb.

Can you post a bottom pic or any information about the brand? The pcmcia to ide/ata card readers I have usually seen do not contain any additional ic's at all. They're just pass through devices for the pcmcia cards but yours appears to be different.

hi everyone ,
so a little update

didn't work with pcmcia to sd adapter , but maybe my card was to fast (ultra III)
so got a pcmcia / compact flash for free and some compact flash card
and
it works --- great
stayed on 1.2 didn't try with 1.14

so a happy mpc owner with more than floppies
:-)
