Dead record inputs, replacement

Hello there,

First of all i'm new here as a contributor, hello everyone. I'll try to do my best to get clear and understood in english.

My problem :

The other day i was surprised my 2000xl can't record samples correctly like it should : hardcore (kind of clipping) and distant noise, on the sample screen the signal levels meter going anormally low and high, almost blinking, and in trim mode a strange waveform with only frequencies on the low part.

I thought of a problem in the sound chain, and tried everything I had in mind: several cables, several sources, checking soundcard in and outs (i usually sample from my soundcard and sometimes from a technics table connected on vinyl), monitor off, stereo, mono L, mono R... always the same problem.

So i guess my inputs are dead or bad connected, right? Maybe you have anything else in mind i could check?

If they are dead i think i should be able to learn how to replace them once i get some, which leads to my last question ; do you think s2000 record inputs are the same as 2000xl and can fit onto? There is a cheap s2 in my area...

Any enlightements??

it could also be the record volume pot - that would be a good thing to clean / replace first.
however, if i remember correctly, that is kind of hard to get to, so might be frustrating.

i bet the actual jacks are not hard to find replacements, and they might be similar / the same as the s2k. i dont think you'd necessarily need to do that though if you can just find the jacks from an electronics store.

@tapedeck : didn't thought about that one! i'll try to clean it first. For info, my signal is always degraded the same way wherever the rec gain is, if that can help find the cause.
I'm not that much into hardware, so you think any jack input would be effective ? These are not specific ones?


@Wal martian : i tried pretty much everything i had. I usually use RCA outs of my soundcard to stereo rec, and convert samples to mono. When I discovered the problem, I tried :
-Other (new still packaged) RCA / jack cables I had in stock . From my soundcard outs to mpc inputs. both on stereo and mono rec. Sound is good in headphones out of the soundcard, and good on the samples screen with monitor on. It gets **** up on trim mode and "play X".

-From my rec outs of the Technics SHDJ1200 connected to some cheap technics turntable (both working pretty well). Same problem. ( When I record from the rec out to my soundcard inputs with the same cable on audacity, the sound is clear.)

-From my soundcraft efx 12 table and here i got mad and tried everything... mono out, monitor out, mix out... On mono L mono R, stereo, with every mono or stereo jack cable i have. With sound coming from my turntable, phone, pc, soundcard...

The strange thing is the problem happening from nowhere... The day before the unit recorded pretty well... It was in my studio for years, always the same place with well, intensive but normal use...

what do you mean here? are you converting to mono using a y cable or something? dont do that.

No. I used to record my samples in stereo and separate them on mono inside the MPC. So I can assign them to one of the eight separate outs. Anyway I think this is not about my problem here.

no, but if you were using a y-cable, that could have been a problem.

the jacks are nothing special - they would just have to match whatever would fit on the circuit board of the mpc.

Ok man I will open the unit tomorrow and see what happen I think it definitely comes from them... I can't stand sampling and chopping on the computer anymore !
