Looks like Akai have finally cought up with MPC3000 and announced CF reader compatability with the MPC2kxl range.

At least they still got love for 2kxl users....All they need to do now is make some appreciated add ons to the OS

Removable media storage is not memory, else it would be called removable 'memory' storage.

I have seen 6 gig ATA drives and larger ones coming out every month. You can buy 1 Gig CF's at your local computer shop for cheaper than my first 1 Gig HD. I bought a 1 Gig HD, which was fairly large at the time, at just over $300 back in 94(?). This was when a 486 bios would not even handle such a drive (it was not imagined that 512 meg would ever be a problem, sound familiar?).

I feel however that this would not be good sales stategy for Akai!

for all of you who are geekin' over the new CF Card implementation, don't sell your MPC yet! Check ebay, you can find an external scsi card reader or even internal reader for $10-20. I can see if you were just buying your first MPC how this would be nice but to sell your existing machine, lose money on it, to only by the same machine, different color and a new storage option is just silly. For the same money your going to lose in selling you current 2kxl, you could just order the new blue top, new black front, get a reader and still probably save money...hell throw in some black pads!

i think most of us new this was coming anyway!

So you say that the 2k users can buy a reader and connect it internal in the MPC?

I'm not sure about the 2k users but 2kxl users can. Microtech, Intermart, SCM, and MPL are some of the SCSI Reader/Writers i found while looking. i haven't obviously tested them all though. mpc3000, is really guy to talk to on this matter. There have other threads in this forum that cover this same topic. you might consider waiting to see if Akai makes the new MCD drive available for individual purpose. i foresee them selling a upgrade kit, similiar to the Zip kit they used to offer. again, ebay is a great resource for all the reader/writer (pcd) drives. i went w/ external scsi reader (for now). if Akai makes an upgrade path to their new drive, thats reasonably cheap w/ the kit and all, that'll be great for everyone. seeing as, cf cards are more reliable, faster and computer swap devices are dirt cheap.

Ok guess i stated my question incorrectly. What would be the storage capabilities of these "Smart media SD card MMC (multimedia card) memory sticks" on average? I'm just trying to gauge the overall benefit this would bring to my 2kxl compared to my 250mb zip if I decided to upgrade.
