RECORD IN (sampling)

If i'm sampling from turntable do i need it to go through a preamp/mixer. I have my turntable directly connected and the volume is ok but it sounds hollow. anybody got any tips or suggestions.

Unless it is a turntable that has line level outputs.....& there are a few that do....... you should use a mixer or phono pre-amp to boost the signal.

hey dstruction i got some questions. what kind of table u got? where do u have it grounded to? it just doesn't sound right hollow or somethin. but the volume is fine it records pretty loud. do u you do any eqing to the sample after u sample it cause i wouldn't be able to do that.

my table is WACK. i had it since i was like 8, its a sanyo turntable/radio/tapedeck haha. but it works for me. I didnt ground it, but im assuming its grounded by sanyo somehow, i dont know lol. anything i do to my samples i do within my mpc 2000 (thats all i use to make my beats). I have the eb16 effects card and use it all the time. I dont know if my sh*t sound hollow, check out my sh*t and tell me if you think it does.

Your Sanyo thing has a phono preamp built-in. Grounding is sorted there too.

If you plug a phono signal directly into a line input, you'll hear NO bass. Try it, youl'll see what I mean.

The reason it works this way because you can't really press that much bass into a record (the stylus would be all over the place). So when they made a standard for records/turntables, they made a standard EQ curve (RIAA curve) that boosts the bass back up. A phono preamp, like those in your DJ mixer, provides that EQ curve. It's built in on some turntables, all DJ mixers, and most hi-fi amps. You can also buy seperate units, including audiophile models that cost as much as a car.

so lo fi my stand alone numark turntable doesn't have it then right. is that why my shit sounds hollow

i plug my sampling cord into the sanyos headphone jack.
