Problem with recording samples/ connection issue?

Hi, I recently hooked up my old 2000XL again to my mixer and turntable but I'm having trouble getting any proper sound when sampling.
Even though I connected the mixer and MPC through the record input/ output channels, I can barely hear the music when trying to sample.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? (I bought the cables recently so I don't think they're dud.)
