Recording Digital I/O on MPC 2000 help!

Hi All,

I am trying to record audio from my Mac Pro 3.1 with an apogee Ensemble FW and cannot get it to work. It is likely to be user error but have tried all the different settings in the Apogee software and unable get a signal.
I have also used the ADAT on the mac pro connected to Hardware FX > MPC but still no luck.
Does anyone know of a work around?

Send it from the Analog out of the Apogee Ensemble, to the Analog inputs of the MPC 2000. If you have the Akai IB-M208P IBM208P 8 Output card. Then you can go Spdif out the Apogee, to the SPDIF input on the 8 out card card.

Not if you use the Analog outs. It will be converted from Digital to Analog and Back to Digital. If you want
to skip that D/A and A/D conversion. The use the SPDIF out of the Apogee into the Digital in of the MPC 2000 if you have that card installed.

Do you have this card installed?

Yes I do! and have tried every combination with the Apogee Ensemble like you say but it wan't pick up the signal for some reason in the MPC - cannot figure out why and almost gave up.
I was doing this method as a work around
Mac pro >ADAT>Yamaha A3000 (Record) >play sample A3000 SPDIF out > In MPC 2000
Trouble is the signal was too quiet, which thought was not possible with digital and all the samples were at 0DB?

This analogue path seems to work with no perceived audio loss and is a far lot easier than my other attempts.

Look at the Maestro Control: Settings on your MAC and change the OPTICAL OUT from ADAT/SMUX to S/PDIF.

I am on this merry go round again and still struggling to get this to work.
I changed the settings to SPDIF in Maesto with no luck.
The only vague attempt of working was when I changed the routing input analogue 1-2 - Spdif. but thiink that is only playing analogue inputs and not digital.
I tried using my eventide eclipse as a conduit via ADAT straight into my mac - bypassing the Apogee but still no luck.
I thought maybe my board is broken as it came out of a salvaged S3000 although remember I recorded in from a CD digitally a couple of months back
Do you have any more advice please?

believe it or not... I have found that it matters what cable you use for those RCA jacks. Make sure you're not using some crummy jacked up RCA cable. It might be noisy and causing a poor connection.

Thanks for your input. I have some pretty nice fat Hi fi cables and have tried a cheaper option both with no luck. Will try another set tonight.
Just so I understand... there is no setting inside the MPC 2000 that needs changing to recieve the digital signal? It just outputs when connected to another device, right?

So I remembered my Yamaha A3000 has the digital board and connected to the Apogee No problem.
Looks like my I/O board is faulty. I was able to record from a CD player so the 'IN' was working.
I suspect paying someone to fix it might cost as much as a replacement board?
What do you think?
